    Escapee Pig!

I could have just about had a heart attack tonight!

I came home from work with a bag of Romaine and gave the dinner call, "Pig, Pig, Piggie!!!" And only one trotted over to me. My Monty bear was no where to be seen!!! I completely freak out, droppped my gallon of milk and started tossing lettuce all over trying to find my pig. I run around the house like a nut job, and finally see him waddling toward some of the lettuce. I made a dash for it and caught him!

Part of the metal had been left down on his C&C cage from where I fed him that morning, so he must have hopped out after I left . Judging from his pile of presents he must have been out all day! Thank goodness I cleaned the house! I am just worried he might have eaten something bad, though I can't see anything disturbed.

Who woulda thunk I would get so attached to my piggy babies .

    Time for piggie cuddles, Liz

    Re: Escapee Pig!

I had some excapees push hard enough on the spring loaded doors I made to squeeze out. I have also had one that could climb right over the top of the grids with no problem. Then there is Patchy! He can jump like a jack rabbit! Luckily, I already encountered the climber, so Patchy hasn't ever excaped, but I bet he would have if I hadn't already topped the cage.

I told you!!! He escaped his cage here more times than I want to count.

    Re: Escapee Pig!

I know how you feel! It really does worry you when you can't find them. It's amazing how such small creatures can capture your heart in such a big way.

I had an experience somewhat like this before too. My mum wanted to come and see the pigs, so she went upstairs before me and I followed a couple of minutes later with the pigs' salad.
Without closing my bedroom door (as was standard during piggy floor time), my mum had taken off the two clips which hold the bottom doors to the top doors, but left the ones which hold the two bottom doors together. These remaining clips are pretty feeble (the ones she took off do most of the work holding the doors shut), so as I'm walking up the stairs, Charlie suddenly galloped towards me and met me at the stairgate. Apparently they had all been pulling at the cage bars and managed to open the doors themselves. That made my heart skip a beat, especially since there are 2 dogs in the house.

Some pigs are just too clever and inquisitive for their own good!

Cookie is my jumper. Princess probably couldn't get off the ground at all if she tried! Em does some pretty high popcorning but I've not seen him get on top of his igloo like Cookie does.

    Re: Escapee Pig!

Griffin is a climber... I frequently find him on top of his Pigloo, taunting Bandit as though to say, "See... I can climb up here, and you can't!". We have cats, so I have enclosed cages, but I will often leave them open if I'm in and out, doing things. And, so far, he hasn't jumped out yet. He does look around like he wants to go higher, though, so I try to keep a close eye on him.

A few years ago, my friend and I searched the entire house for one of her pigs. I still can't figure out how she got out, but we found her under a dresser. She was pretty hard to find despite the trail of poop she left behind.

Lizzie decided to explore beyond her cage one day when I accidently left the door open. I was holding Eleanor on the couch, and saw Lizzie walking across the living room floor. Luckily we were right there, and she walked back to the cage on her own, but it scared us. Now they have "piggie locks" for their door when we are gone or sleeping.
