Skittish pig

I've had my pig for a month and a half and she is still very skittish, nervous and not very active. Ive given her floor time every day and she just sits there doing nothing.
Is this normal, will she take some more time to get used to me and her surroundings?

for the new pig owner

when i first got my two guineapigs they would scratch and run away but i found that to win their trust all you need to do is not yell as they will get scared, if you use a soft tone of voice and stroke them softly on you lap at diferent times over the period of a couple of days then i think you will find that you will have a new friend.

Have you been trying to handfeed her veggies. Sometimes that helps in winning their affection!

Re: Skittish pig

My pigs have never been really comfortable with floor time. It's a huge scary world out there, you know. I give them lots of things to explore, so they skitter from hidey house to shoebox to cereal-box-tunnel.
Also I put little bits of hay and carrot here and there to encourage them to get off their little butts.

In her cage, try crumpling up newspaper for her to crawl around under. I do that for my pigs every few days, and leave it there for an hour or so. They LOVE it.

One last thing -- reach into her cage and give her some petting as often as possible, without picking her up.

(do you have a big fun c&c cage yet?)

Re: Skittish pig

Mine was a real wimp too. I fenced off a little area outside in the grass for him for "floor time" and he really got into it and started running and popcorning all over.

He was still skittish inside until I got him a pal. Now, he's too busy trying to boss, ride herd and supervise his new friend that he doesn't have time to worry about trivial humans.

Ask Louis, he is the one that replied to a 2+ year old thread.
