    Length of Teeth

Ok I have a question. I've just started paying more attention to the girls' teeth, at least the front ones. Is there a time when the teeth are too long? All the girls' teeth look pretty good but I noticed that Snowball's are longer than anyone else's. She's been eating fine and drinks fine. Her weight hasn't changed either. I was just curious if I need to be worried. Thanks.

    Re: Length of Teeth

The front teeth should grow until they meet. Their length will be determined by the length of the back teeth and each guinea pigs individual mouth and teeth shape. If you trim the front teeth without trimming the back teeth the front teeth just won't meet and they won't be able to bite things like hay into pieces for the back teeth to chew up. Unless they are having trouble eating or closing their mouth I wouldn't pay too much attention to tooth length.

    Re: Length of Teeth

Aah! Thanks. I don't know what made me look at their teeth but I was shocked to see how long hers are compared to the other three adult piggies. She's eating fine and is normal acting. I won't worry now. I really appreciate you giving me this advice. I was just curious because I've read other posts that people have had to had their piggies teeth trimmed. Of course, none of them will let me look at their back teeth. I had a heck of a time getting to look at the front.

    Re: Length of Teeth

If she has troubles picking up lettuce with her teeth, tears it instead of bitting it, or is drooling, loosing weight, then I would worry. My male's teeth look longer then the females, but I know that his are totally fine! Trust me, you will know when your pig has too long of teeth. It is a very obviouse length, and they will lap over the top ones. How do the top front incisors look? Are they flat on the bottom and even? Also, are the bottom teeth even? One is not longer then the other? My Hamster had a tooth get broken, and needed a trim. If everything else seems ok, dont worry to much! :0)

    Re: Length of Teeth

Great! It sounds like I worry for nothing. Both upper and lower teeth are growing the same length and a even with each other. So thanks for the advice.
