My piggy story

I just wanted to say, this site really touched my heart. My wife and i have been piggy owners for almost a year now. our first piggy was chubbs. we got her from petsmart in NC. they were advertising all of their pigs as "male". well, we were in for a BIG surprise later. My friend (who has raised GP's since she was a kid) from high school lived in the same town and "piggy-sat" for us while we went to PA for my grandfather's 75th birthday. when we got back, we found that we had a girl piggy and was pregnant with 3 wee ones. well, to make a long story short, my wife and i went to dinner one night and when we got home, we were treated to 3 darling little ones,Gizmo, CJ, and Mesquite. well, Mesquite was the runt of the litter and we have a feeling that he was squeezed inbetween giz and cj while in chubbs. he had a problem with one of his hind legs and mom abandoned him. So my wife and i raised him by hand. A week after they were born, chubbs stopped eating and became very lethargic. we held her, nursed her to no avail. we seperated her from the babies and she passed away the next day. I was so upset and i felt like i had failed chubbs. now as i reflect on it, i think that my wife and i honor chubbs by being the best mommy and daddy to "our" babies (we don't have kids yet). well, we learned on the fly by learning all we could from my friend and a our vet in fayetteville, nc. Mesquite got bigger and did giz and CJ (CJ stands for "Chubbs Jr." cuz he looks just like his mom!)but 3 weeks after mom died, mesquite fell ill just like his mom. i held him all night until i went to bed. we seperated him from the other 2 and he passed just like his mom. Well, in the end, CJ and Gizmo are doing just great. i haven't seen them for almost 7 months because i've been deployed and i will be seeing them in the next few weeks, i just hope they remember me. thank you for reading this. sorry it is long winded but i needed to do this to help with the greaving process that i still do for chubbs and mesquite.

Re: My piggy story

Your story made me cry...Pet store piggies aren't the best quality most of the time....I have one and still struggle to get her to let me pick her up..I don't know what they did to her, but she does not like humans that much. My other two (one adopted from Cavy Spirits Hollister pig a go go) are just the opposite. I can't imagine being away from my piggies for more than a shift at work. God bless you for your commitment to your country! I know your piggies will be glad to see you again!!! Hang in there and stay safe.
