The flu & piggies I'm feeling achy and I've been exposed to someone who had a temp with vomiting a few days ago. My question is if I'm sick with the flu or cold or anything viral/bacterial, can the girls get it from me? Thanks. I'm their primary caregiver and want to make sure I don't pass things to them. I'm going to show my 10yr old how to scoop poop, so he can do it when I'm ill. Thanks again!! ![]()

Re: The flu & piggies If memory serves me correctly (I haven't had to answer this question in a while), pigs can catch bacterial infections but not viral infections. If you are sick and unsure as to whether it's viral or bacterial, don't handle the pigs for a few days. Wash hands well before and after feeding them and maybe your son will help with poop scooping!

Re: The flu & piggies The flu is viral right? I don't think there are any easily transmittable viruses from people to piggies or the reverse. There's a cold thread somewhere on guinealynx that should still be on the first page or close to it where someone asked about transmitting cold viruses. Maybe that would be helpful to read.

Re: The flu & piggies I'd heard the same thing... that viruses are "safe" but that bacteria can be passed. So if it's flu, your piggies should be okay.

Re: The flu & piggies Well the piggies may be ok but I may not be.
