What the Heck?

Tonight I went to visit my husband at work, and when I went out to the car some lady approached him. I was thinking to myself "yeah lady, you better keep at least 3 feet from my man or I'ma come in there". Suddenly he points to my van and him and this lady comes out. She approaches me and tells me that her son heard from his friend (who I got Porky and Babe from) that I "take" guinea pigs, and her son doesen't have time for HIM anymore, and he's in the car. HUH? What if I hadn't just happened to stop by hubbies work? Where would the piggie in her car have gone? So I go and look and she tells me that this pig is from the same litter as my girls, only he's a boy. I have 3 little girls.
Luckily my sister wants a piggie now, so I called her and she said she'd love to meet him tommoro.
I have him in a box right now, the lady gave me this cage with a wire bottom, and it had a garbage bag taped to the sides, I'm assuming because he was kicking bedding. It has a tray that you put under the wires and I pull it out and it's FILTHY. Like, I wouldn't let my piggies NEAR it. Since when did pets become disposable? And since when am I crazy guinea pig lady???

Re: What the Hell?

I just cleaned the tray and tried to make the cage as servicable as possible till I get to work on a C&C cage. That lady should be ashamed of the way that tray was when she gave it to me!

Re: What the Hell?

The sudden suprise guinea pig. I gained 2 that way. They probably figured if the tray doesn't touch the pig why bother to clean it. Although it's questionable whether they would have cleaned it anyway.

Re: What the Hell?

It was NASTY
I had to bleach my bathtub when Iw as done cleaning that tray.
Poor little pig. The food bowl was metal and looked like it was getting rusty. No hay. DOG food! A tiny cardboard box stained with pee for him to "hide" in.
The cage it's self isnt too too bad now that I have the "pan" on top of the wire bottom protecting his little feets. It's not ideal, but it will work for a time. I didn't have an extra pigloo, so I got a small paper bag and folded back the opening and he's in there now hiding. I gave him some romain and hay, and tonight I'll hook him up with some pepper.

Re: What the Hell?

Do you have a tissue box you can empty out? You can cut a door out of it and give him a new hidey house. He's a lucky piggy that you were willing to take him in.

Although, he does seem to like that paper bag.
I think that lady is a monster.

Re: What the Hell?

Its so sad, but unfortunatly this type of thing happens all the time. There are so many unwanted rodents and g-pigs out there. Good thing for them, you were there to take them in. :0)

He may like a clean lunch bag to play in. Thank goodness there are people like you who care and now he'll be in a MUCH better home.

Yeah. I went and bought a pack of lunch bags when I realised my girlie girls liked them. $.99 for me and loads of fun for them. they eat them, shred them, and hide in them. So far though, he's just cowering in there.
I'm really curious what that lady would have done if I hadn't been there...hub might have said no when he found out it was a boy, and what would she have done then? Even if he'd of said yeah, he couldn't exactly keep the thing in the back room at the wawa, and it was purely by chance that I was even NEAR there. Probably dropped him off on the doorstep of the vets for them to find monday morning dead.
People suck. I'm really starting to like my animals WAY better.

Re: What the Hell?

Oh yes, paper lunchbags are our boys' favorite toys as well. Have you stuffed one full of hay yet?

I am sooo glad you were there to take him. I have no idea what she'd have done either, but I'm sure we really don't want to know. How fortunate for the little guy that you WERE there for him! Does the little sweetie have a name yet?

Re: What the Hell?

Kriket-Most people suck, at least the ones that treat their animals like that. Poor thing is probably scared to death. Make sure he's not near your girls in case he's sick. Good luck!

No, no stuffed bags yet. I was gonna pull that one out for when they get really bored.

I really dont want to know what she would have done either. And no, I'm keeping him at my sisters (she wanted a gp too, since I got the girls) so I haven't named him. I was just calling him mr. Pigg a little while ago and he wheeked.

Please be careful with the titles you come up with for your threads Kricket.

Re: What the Heck?

I think with the shock and nonsence of this pig comming into her care the way it did, the title is kind of fitting.

It must be shocking to have guinea pigs thrown at you when at your husbands place of employment. I think I would be saying "what the heck" too, just out of surprise! These sort of things just leave some of us Plonkers speechless and scratching our head, our brains empty and witless for better titles.

Just my humble opinion.
Do I need to go spend some time with Jimmy in the dungon?

Re: What the Heck?

The original title was not "What the heck?". It was "What the hell?". I changed it slightly to make it more pleasing and because I really hate seeing even the mildest of curse words on the forum.
