I recently adopted to young sister pigs from a local shelter. The lady at the shelter thought they were between a month and a month and a half old. They tend to get along with each other most of the time buuut the gold cavy always seems to beat up the brown cavy when he tries to go into their igloo. The first day I had them, they were inseperable. Now, the gold cavy is almost always in the igloo and the brown cavy spends a lot of time in the back corner of the cage, usually hiding under the hay. They're both terribly scared to be picked up. I've only had them for a few days and I know I must be patient with them but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions? ![]()

Re: Fighting pigs? Looks like the gold one is your dominant girl. Do they only have the one pigloo? Getting another hidey house would alleviate some of the tension. And how large is their cage? Bigger might be better to give them more seperation room when they don't want to be together. Do they have names other than the gold cavy and the brown cavy?

Thanks for such a quick reply! The cage is 3 by 2 grids. I plan on making it bigger in the next couple weeks but considering they're only about a month old, they're small and I thought this would suffice for now. I'm thinking about making a multi-level cage but I'm not sure if they'll use a ramp or not? I adopted them on Thursday and haven't been able to pick appropriate names just yet. I just hope they get along in the long run? Right now, they're hiding under the hay - not doing much?

Re: Fighting pigs? Your pigs will get used to you in time. I won Pippin over by offering him lots of treats by hand. I kept his cage in an area where he got to see me a lot during the day. As for the fighting, it sounds like they are establishing dominance. Like Percy's Mom suggested, giving them two of everything sure helps! They aren't called PIGS for nothing. ![]()

Re: Fighting pigs? Yep, two hidey houses should help. They are going through a normal routine of establishing dominance.

I went back to Petsmart to get another igloo buuut they didn't have the one I wanted in stock. I bought one of those tube/tunnel things and she's been in it for about 2 hours straight, .

Re: Fighting pigs? If it's a Chube that you're talking about, I have a suggestion for you. Get oatmeal in a cardboard tube shaped box, toss the lid, pull off the plastic ring at the top, peel off the label, and cut the bottom out. Instant piggy tube! It's cheaper and keeps you out of pet stores.
