Okay, what should I expect when getting Malaika a friend? I have a lot of questions, but I can't think of them all right now What cage size do I need for two females? Will I need a second water bottle and/or hay feeder? My guinea pig is very timid and jumpy, and doesn't trust people easily - what kind of temperament should her friend have in order for them to get along? |

How old is your gp? You should have two of everything in the cage and they would need atleast a 2x4. |

For 2 girls, you ideally need a 2x4. Bigger is always better, but the minimum should really be 2x4. I advise 2 of everything - 2 water bottles, 2 food dishes, 2 piles of hay and 2 pigloos. They are more likely to get along if they have their own space. Malaika's friend shouldn't be too rowdy - ideally a placid pig is better matched to a quiet, timid piggy. How old is Malaika? |

Okay, what should I expect when getting Malaika a friend? I have a lot of questions, but I can't think of them all right now What cage size do I need for two females? 2x3 C&C size min, more is better since they are not closely bonded, but I had to scale back my 2X4 to a 2X3 and my girls did fine dispite the new relationship. Will I need a second water bottle and/or hay feeder? It is advisable, however I only have one at the moment, and they share nicely. Boots gaurded it for a few days, but would rather snuggle right now then make war. My guinea pig is very timid and jumpy, and doesn't trust people easily - what kind of temperament should her friend have in order for them to get along? How they react to humans does not really demonstrate how they will react to their own kind. When making enquiries, try and look for a pig known to be friendly. I did not know what Barbie was like when I got her, and things worked out really well. It isn't as important with sows as it is with boars, provided they have enough room. Some sows fight, but most work it out provided intros are done properly and all. One thing I would suggest is changing up the cage when you finnaly introduce the new one. The thing is, I have no idea at all how old she is. Our rescue found her in a ditch in her pet store cage, on the side of the highway. She might be 11 months old, she might be 5 years old. As for the cage, I don't know how many feet a 2x4 grid cage is, but my cage will be about 10.5 square feet. Is that big enough? It would have been twelve, but I don't have the money for more materials, so I have to use what we have right now. Who knows I might still go with 3.5x3.5 feet instead of 3x3.5 - anyway, 12.25 square feet is the maximum I can go right now.. |

10.5 sq. feet is big enough for 2 pigs. I would go for a baby pig if you think Malaika's an older pig. Ask rescues or shelters if they have any pigs under 3 months for a good match. A neutered boar could work well with Malaika too - boars tend to be a little more placid than girls in my experiences. |

A 2x4 C&C is roughly 28x56 without connectors. |
