Problem with rescues... I'm looking for a little male to befriend my peanut. I've contacted a couple of rescues who told me they don't adopt out for male-to-male pairs, they've said they usually don't get along. What are my other options? Has anyone run into this before? Thanks

Re: Problem with rescues... Where do you live? Maybe we can help find a rescue who will be more co operative? It is true that you need to be careful with adult boar pairings, but you should be able to find him a friend.

Re: Problem with rescues... I live in Michigan and there aren't very many places in my area. i volunteer at the humane society a lot but the people don't know very much about the personality of the pigs and such. It's also a very loud place and I'd hate to cause Peanut much stress. ![]()

Re: Problem with rescues... Alot of shelters here in the midwest are stuck with that stupid idea that males won't get along. If it's a shelter that knows little anyway I just hit them with so much information they have no choice but to believe I'll give the guinea pig a good home. Otherwise I just don't tell them I'm putting the boar with another one. If I want to know the boars personality I ask it as if I'm just wondering how he will interact with me instead of because I want to pair him with another boar.

Re: Problem with rescues... I would not recommend bringing Peanut to the Humane society anyway, you don't know what he would pick up. Do they have any baby boars? I think they may prove to be your best outlit, just going to have to be a little patient and wait it out. I am sure someone is going to come along with a litter at some point.

Re: Problem with rescues... Maybe you could consider getting peanut neuterd. Then you could get a girl.

Re: Problem with rescues... Neutering would be one way around the problem, but seems a little drastic. Please keep us updated on your plight. Maybe someone local to you will crop up with a solution.

Re: Problem with rescues... I just adopted out 5 baby boars (3-4 weeks old) to 5 homes with adult boars. Providing you have a big enough C&C it should be ok. Try looking for a baby and explain to people that this is the best way to pair boars since the adult will be dominant. Of course, this can all change when the baby reaches about 6 months, but with some careful handling problems can usually be worked out. Does this mean that all these shelters/rescues think that adult boars should live alone, I wonder?

Re: Problem with rescues... Not at all. We just paired a new baby up with an adult. They will be adopted out as a pair. We absolutely feel that boars should not live alone. I personally have 3 living together and 2 of them were adopted from the rescue.

Re: Problem with rescues... Sorry, I meant the rescues in the area where they're having the problem! Not the ones we know about
