Unhappy I have sad news

Two of my boys, Dale and Safari, are missing and I believe that they have been taken by someone very low. I found their cage empty yesterday morning, so they were probably taken through the night. Chip and Spud were still in their cage. I can only guess as to why they only took Dale and Safari and the only reason I can think of is that they wanted baby guinea pigs over older pigs. Now none of my pigs were old but Safari was only 10 weeks and Dale was quite small and therefore looked younger then what he was. Chip and Spud are quite larger then Dale even though they are the same age.

I can't stop blamming myself as their cage was on the Verhanda and not inside where I wanted it to be. However, the verhanda is enclosed and from the street you can not see the cage (or anything else on the verhanda)...you physically have to enter our yard through a gate and walk up the steps and onto the verhanda before you can see anything!

I just can't get over it. I can't believe some one would do this! I've searched everywhere for them including the backyards and gardens of everyone in my street, but chances are whoever took them doesn't even live around here.

I'm so upset

Re: I have sad news

That sucks.

The thief must have been someone you know. How else would someone know where to look?
Do you have any friends/associates who either really likes your piggers or really dislike/make fun of, etc, the piggers? That's where I'd look. Good luck.

Re: I have sad news

That sucks. Did anyone know you had gps? Maybe put up reward flyers, check all the pet stores and send their pics to area breeders/ rescues/ shelters?

Maybe someone has them indoors.

I would padlack their hutches from now on. I'm sorry.

Someone has to be really darn low to steal guinea pigs. I hope somehow, some way you are able to find them.

Re: I have sad news

No there is no door to the verhanda. We are renting and have already spoken to the realeastate before about getting a door for it. They then spoke to the owners but they don't wish to spend the money.

Actually the more I think about it, it doesn't suprise me that this has happened. The area we are renting in is not the best area...it has quite a few deadbeats, but the rent is cheaper then others, hence the reason we are renting here. Thank god only til december. The house is great, but we will be moving to my parents so we can save money and buy our own house.

Anyway, thank you everyone for your replys, it has picked up my spirit a bit so thank you.

Re: I have sad news

A friend had this happen to her. She had two of the most gorgeous, cute, inquisitive pigs, and they were stolen from her backyard. Thankfully they turned up again in a petshop down the road and she got them back and also found out who took them. I'm so sorry about what you happened.

Re: I have sad news

Why would someone want to steal a family pet? I would count that as abduction.

Re: I have sad news

Do you have anything that makes them squeek? Like a food bag? Mine squeek when they hear plastic bags because it sounds like a food bag. I would knock on all the doors near you and ask if anyone's seen them...and bring a plastic bag with you and crinkle it (loudly but discreetly) while you're standing in the doorway. They might just start squeeking from a back room somewhere, and you can see if the person looks uncomfortable. And if that happens, call the cops.

It might not work, but its something to try. I used to have some nice looking (in the friendly sense) college girls living next to me in my last apartment, and I was surprised to hear one of them say she wanted to steal one of my potted plants (heard it through the open window). It may be someone who lives very near you.

Re: I have sad news

I am very sorry.

Unfortunately this is why we all say that piggies belong inside the house, not outside. When they are outside they are out of our vision and as you can see something can happen and it did.

Hopefully whomever took them will give them a good home.

Re: I have sad news

If the piggies were taken, it had to be someone who lives near you, or who has visited your house.

Did you file a police report?

Susan W has some good ideas. Knock on all the doors in your neighborhood. And ask *anyone* if they saw anything suspicious going on the night they were taken.

A large reward will help too.

Could a cat or wild animal got to them? Would you have heard them from your bedroom?

I am sorry this happened. Very Sad.

Becky cavy mad - Please use proper capitalization when you post. It makes your writing hard to understand when you don't. Here is a quote that appears at the top of every repy page. Maybe you didn't see it.

"Please use proper English: NO CHAT-SPEAK, spell out your words (for example, do NOT use "u" for "you"), use proper punctuation and capitalize the beginning of each sentence. In this international forum, please use slang with restraint. Easy to read and understand posts get faster and better replies."

I think I should also inform you that this forum is rescue run and oriented. We frown on "buying" Guinea Pigs (and most other animals). There is a huge animal overpopulation problem. Animal rescues are filled to the brim and breeders and petshops that breed and sell GPs and other animals only add to the problem. I recommend you read the Cavy Spirit website. It's the site that spawned this forum http://cavyspirit.com
