| Mite Medication I went to the vet today. Took my 6 piggies. They we getting weighed and i saw something on Pigbert back. I looked and the mites have already starting eating his skin. I felt so horrible. It only cost me 35$ Canadian, which i believe is really cheap for 6 pigs. Question : They gave me "Revolution" medicine. I put a certain amount on their back. Right between their shoulder blades. Is this safe? |

| Re: Mite Medication Did the vets dose the pigs or did you put it on? How much? Revolution is fine, however there is enough medication in any one container to treat a much larger animal. What city are you in, I am in Ontario and need a piggy vet for this same problem... Guinea lynx has more info on this medication, if you look under medication on the site. Quote:

If the stuff is 120mg/cc then it is half this amount. So it sounds like it may have been a slight underdose. I would possibly call the vet and ask about the dosages again... But it definately is not going to harm them. This is a link to the site that explains it. http://www.guinealynx.info/antiparas...tml#selamectin |

| Re: Mite Medication The medicine comes in different concentrations. Either 60mg of medication for every cc or 120 mg of medication for every cc. the mauve tube is the less concentrated stuff. I am thinking that your tube was the mauve one? Does that help? |

| Re: Mite Medication With mites it's usually not a big deal to sterilize everything. The type of mites guinea pigs usually get rarely live long in the cage by themselves. Revolution like advantage also gets spread through the cage onto all the objects so it helps kill the mites. Just keep the cage clean and wash what you can in really hot water and it should take care of all the mites. Most of the time you put medicines like that behind the ears on the spots with no hair instead of between the shoulder blades like most animals but I don't think it will make a big difference so long as they don't ingest a large amount. |

| Re: Mite Medication Quote:
the dosage is pigs weight in kilos x 0.167cc = dosage in cc If the medicine is 6mg/cc your pig weighs 0.908 x 0.167cc = 0.152 (rounded to nearest hundredth) dosage. So if you only gave .11cc then the pig is short 0.042cc It does not sound like a lot, probably better to be under? I would just call the vet to confirm. |
