Since last week, I've noticed that my pigs have gradually stopped eating ethir pellets. The girls started boycotting the pellets first, then Feifei followed... However, they are eating everything else, and demands more veggie than usual. Are they just spoiled becuase they know they've trained me to the T to get veggie, or are they just sick of the pellets already? They usually finish the pellets at night when there's no other source of food left in the cage, about 1/2 cup. In the morning, they usually eat about 1/2 of what I put out in the morning, which is about 1/3 cup for 3 piggiess. The girls have been on cavyperfomance since March this year, then switched to Cuisine around July/August. When Feifei came to join us, he was already on cuisine. Should I try with another pellet, say the Mazura**?? can;t rememebr the name... Thanks all!

Re: Why did my pigs stopped eating pellets? Whenever I go home to visit my parents, Pippin knows he can beg more veggies off his "Grandma" if he refuses to eat his pellets. (I swear, he has her totally trained!) He also tends to eat less when its the bottom of the bag pellets. (I now buy even smaller quantities each time to ensure this doesn't happen.) Last time I checked, Mazuri pellets were alfalfa based, so they might not be the best choice. I would certainly choose Oxbow's Cavy Cuisine over Mazuri for a cavy over 6 months of age.

Re: Why did my pigs stopped eating pellets? Actually, you might just be filling them up with the veggies! As long as they're eating, they're fine. Oxbow is the best pellet for them. My boys also rarely eat pellets now because I've filled them up with hay and veggies. Just keep pellets in there in case they get hungry and they should b fine.

Re: Why did my pigs stopped eating pellets? Thanks for the info!!! So, they are literally are pellet strike right? I truly think they've trained me too well.... now wonder we are cavy slaves. So, as long as they are eating me out of house and car payments, they should be fine?!? I though Mazuri makes 2 varieties like Oxbow, 1 alfafa and 1 timothy based? Mine have been a loyal Oxbow fan from Perfoamce to Cuisine, but now, they just won;t eat. Or perhaps, they've reached the age where they don't really need to eat that much???

Re: Why did my pigs stopped eating pellets? Mazuri is fine for adult pigs. It is better than Kaytee Timothey complete, but Oxbow is better.

Re: Why did my pigs stopped eating pellets? If they are not eating pellets it's no big deal. Make sure they have unlimited hay and up the amounts of veggies. Mazuri is alfalfa based but if you are feeding the recommended amounts it won't hurt adult pigs unless they are prone to stones or calcium problems.
