Problem introducing pigs Hi, I don't post here much but I need some help. I currently have 3 sows Min, Meg and Cocoa. Min and Meg are living together. About a month ago I was given Cocoa and now that her quarantine is finished I would like them to all live together. However everytime they are placed together even on neutral ground Meg will persistently chase Cocoa and bite her, and now everytime Cocoa is near Meg she is absolutely terrified, with Min however she is fine and they get on really well. At the moment Cocoa is in a petstore cage, I dont want her to live alone forever. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to successfully keep them together?

Re: Problem introducing pigs Try taking them outside on the lawn in an enclosure. The grass will provide a distraction - no pig can resist lovely fresh green stuff! The chasing and nipping is fine - if no blood is drawn then they are simply sorting out dominance rather than trying to hurt each other.

Re: Problem introducing pigs What you are stating they are doing is normal behavior. Read www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm for tips on introductions. I just introduced sows #6 and #7 into my herd and went through the same things, but a few hours later they were getting along. You have to introduce on neutral ground and before you put any pigs in the cage, you must clean the cage and everything in it well with vinegar so that the scents of the two sows who lived there are completely gone.
