Unhappy Oh No!!!

The other day, Pigbert was scratching, which was fine. But then started screaming it sounded like it. I immediantly looked over as he was twitching and freaking out. It hurt him so bad. I live in a town where there are no small animal vets. So i seperated the cage (i dont have enough for another cage) and hoped it wouldn't spread. My mom is calling a vet tomorrow to see if she can get some guinea pig mites treatment.

What is it called?

Please help. Also, when i treat Pigbert, ill also be treating Socrotease, Barnabee, Hershey, Molson, and Dale jr. Is that okay?!

Re: Oh No!!!

Ivermectin. See www.guinealynx.info for more info. You can buy it over the counter or online. The vet will probably insist on you bringing the pigs into the office rather than simply giving you ivermec.

Is he a new pig? How long have you had him?

Yes, if you have a mites outbreak, treat all your pigs.

Re: Oh No!!!

I would not let the vet do a skin scrapping. It is a waist of money. They usually never find anything during the scrapping. Some vets, not finding anything in the scrapping may then insist that your pig does not have mites at all. In order for the vet to really get anything from a skin scrapping, he woul dhave to sit there, and scrap your pig over and over, in different spots of his body till he found something. Most vets will not put a pig threw that kind of pain. I would not. Just a thought! Plus, I treated all my g-pigs per the recommendations of guinealynx. It seems to be working, and I saved about 150.00, doing it myself.

Re: Oh No!!!

Read over http://guinealynx.info/ivermectin_treatment.html for more information. It should tell you how long it takes for the whole treatment to be complete and how long to leave between each dose.
