Thumbs down Teething... *gulps*

Well... I wouldn't count this as the "puppy teething" that my bitch (female dog) has. What I'm saying is that.. well, my piggy's teeth are long, very, very, very long . So... I gave her some thick branches from a fruit tree... and it's been there for weeks, and not even one bite has been bitten. What's wrong with her? Is this normal? Please help me!!!
p.s- she also thinks the thick branch is a log, so she lays over on it. Ugh... it's so frustrating!!!

Re: Teething... *gulps*

Guinea pigs have contsantly growing teeth.
their teeth are long but as long as the top and bottom meet and don't overlap there is no need to shorten them.

i ahve yet to see a piggy chew a fruit branch. Guinea pigs naturally grind their teeth agaianst each other to keep them short and grass, hay and corn husk also help with this.
Hope this helps
Emma

Do you feed unlimited grass hay? That keeps their teeth work down, but if they are already overgrown, you need a cavy savy vet.

They don't really chew on stuff like that, just tempt them with hay.

How long are your pigs teeth? Can you post a pigture - we might be able to tell if they need trimming, as if they are too long it can cause eating problems and can be painful.

I agree with rabbitsncavyluv - hay is the best source of keeping piggy teeth down, and it's one which the pigs are always interested in.

Are you sure they are too long? Most Rodents have long teeth.

Is the pig having a hard time eating?

Are you giving unlimited hay? You can put a hay loft in the C&C cage or get a container specially designed for holding hay, (called a hopper? )

Try giving other toys like Toilet Paper rolls for her to chew up, not as good as hay, but more attractive to piggy.
