I think this is sad? I found this to be sad. Is this cage as small as it looks? They say it is a good sized cage. The sad part is that he will probably spend the rest of his life alone in this tiny cage. http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=5178080 I'm also really tempted to email this rescue and find out where the other guinea pig is that came in with this one. I didnt find any evidence of another one for adoption. I bet these are really two sad lonely pigs right now. http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=5030732 Last edited by Ly&Pigs : 10-04-05 at 07:35 pm. Reason: fixing links

Re: I think this is sad? Many animal shelters are completely ignorant of proper cavy care, feeding them rabbit pellets, etc. Are these shelters near you? Maybe you could volunteer to work with any pigs they get in...at least make sure they're on proper bedding, given fresh veggies, etc. You could print out some info on care and cages for them to pass along to prospective owners. Most people just think in terms of what is necessary to keep guinea pigs ALIVE! We know that there is so much more to it, if we want to provide them with the best lives possible. I think the important thing is to share any knowledge we have with patience and kindness! Animal shelters are probably over-taxed with so many other issues that, right or wrong, the so-called "pocket pets" are the least of their worries. Maybe you could help, though!

Re: I think this is sad? I wish I lived near these shelters. There isnt a guinea pig shelter near me. I tried to work with a rescue group in the town I live, but they never hear of any homeless pigs. All the pigs that need homes come to petco. I would like to help, but there isnt anything I can do right now.

Re: I think this is sad? What you can do is write them an email and give them the links to GL, Cavy Cages, and Cavy Spirit. Let them know what they are doing wrong, but do it in a constructive manor.

Re: I think this is sad? yes, it is good you should let them know. And, if he gets adopted by a good gp owner, he should have a bigger cage and some friends.

Re: I think this is sad? Maybe you can suggest they can print out some of the info from the links you give them to give to the adoptive parents.

Re: I think this is sad? I fixed your links in your first post Johanna. They are working correctly now. I deleted some of your other messages where you tried to get them fixed. Many shelters aren't really cavy savvy. They really try but most could use a lesson on appropriate cage size and what to feed.
