Adopting from the Critter Corral Hello. Now, I know a few of you have already done this, so I'd appreciate a reply, but anyone else's input is highly welcome. I'm looking into adopting another little guy from the Critter Corral here in Illinois. I have five boys in mind that I just adore and fell in love with the day I saw them on petfinder, but I'm not quite sure about going into adopting one of the little piggles. Am I being too picky if I ask Rose which one's the most submissive, who gets along best with other boys, etc.? I really want to make this work and I would just love to get one of these piggies. Of course, any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Both Nugget and Hercules are from Critter Corral and they get a long swimmingly. The Corral has some of the best foster homes around and all their guinea pigs are all different. The descriptions are spot on so you don't have to worry about anything.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Okay. I'm so nervous, and I don't know why. I have several references of how well I take care of my animals, including an exotics vet, a shelter around here, my biology teacher, and people that I've taken care of animals for. I also have pictures of the cage right now, will get pictures of the new cage when I can start building it(hopefully in a few days), and pictures of the boys. Eek! I'm so nervous.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral I don't think that's too much! She seems like she has a great operation there, with insight into cavy personalities...I'd think she would understand your concerns about integrating a new pig into your existing social structure!

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Alright. Should I E-mail her first? It says that the adoptions are appointment only.

| Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Email or call, don't just show up. As with most rescues, she does have a life outside or rescueing or you could barge in on someone elses appointment! Not a good way to win favour. I usually Email, it is less intrusive, and the person can email back when the time is best for them. However, if you don't get a response, call back in a day or so, as some people don't respond promptly to email. Good Luck! I am sure you will have no problems and will have a new furry friend home soon. Quote:

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral I would email her as well first. Just give her an idea of what your thinking as far as adopting. You'll definitely have to let me know what she says and who you decide on.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Okay! Jeez, I can't wait until i can start building their cage! (I have to wait until we donate our air hockey table. We have to get rid of it before we have space for our 3x6)

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral I understand. I'm in the middle of rearranging bedrooms and won't be able to expand their cage for another 2 weekends. I'm going to do an L shape cage which I'm hoping will be easier to clean. I can't wait to see who you'll end up adopting.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral I'm still so nervous that the new pig won't get along with my boys though. I would just hate myself if we had to bring him back to the Critter Corral.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral You know what. As much as I hate to admit this, I think your best picks would be Pumpkin (because he's described as laid back) or Carter (the baby) because he is younger. How old are your other guys? When I looked up the other three, they were all described as shy or skittish. Just a thought.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Cocoa's just turned two probably three months ago and Pippin is just about to turn 1. But the thing is that she said Pumpkin was laid back, but no matter how laid back a piggy is with people, some of them just hate other piggies. My neighbor had an aodrable teddy who was so sweet, but when he saw other pigs he went mad. When they brought him to the vet they had to wear work gloves so he didn't bite their hands! But I do love Pumpkin... Ahh, Jenn! It's so hard!

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Maybe you can set up a meeting with Rose and take Pippen & Cocoa with you and see how they get along with the different ones. Since she's a reputable rescuer, you could probably skip the quarantine period. Just a thought.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral I thought that too, but I was kind of unsure. I'd feel bad moving them around so much though, seeing as Rose lives an hour and a half away from me.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral You could also ask Rose if any of them are with other piggies and see how they respond to the others. I'm sure it'll be ok.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Sounds good. Hopefully she'll let me adopt if she knows that I'm the pig's main care-taker.

Re: Adopting from the Critter Corral Is that an issue? I think you have proven yourself on this forum that you're responsible enough to adopt. You seem more mature than some of the adults that have posted on here (and have now been banned). Good luck!!
