I would think about the only thing you could do is a litter box. I use a woven rug to catch the hay in my wooden cage since it is easier to shake off than fleece.
The woven rug or a towel works well for me, it is easy to clean. The guinea pigs could run around on it and it really doesn't spread hay or anything. At least my piggies don't spread around their hay.
I got mine at Target but they have them everywhere, it's just a typical woven rug. Good luck!![]()
That's pretty cool. Maybe if I did something like that instead of just laying the hay in the cage, the cage wouldn't have a funny smell after 3 days.
Yes, that would help!
I cut the two side grids so they were shorter, they are 5 squares wide, but you could always just bend them if you didn't want to cut one. The woven mat under it is easy shake off when it comes time to clean the cage. Hay is a big pain to get off of fleece. This solution has been working well for me since we finished the cage about a month ago.
I cut the inner thinner wire with sheet metal clippers and the outer fatter wire with a hand saw. If you bend it just put your foot down (wear a shoe) where you want the bend to be and pull up. Bending is pretty easy.
I used an oven to help bend mine. Just bakes for 30mins at 250F and take out with oven mits and carefully/slowly bend.
what about using grids to create a loft or something? I don't know how high the sides are, but you could build a grid loft outside the cage with a ramp?
