    Looking for some plans

My brother is starting to like C&C cages, now we just have to convince my mum. The reason they've always been unsure of c&c cages is because one of our cats is about 14 pounds. I'm looking to build (If I can convince my mum.) something the size of a 3x4, hopefully with a loft of some kind. However, we need something cat proof and accessible. I'd like it to have a fully opening roof. I'd really appreciate if someone could draw up some plans for me! Also, it would be great if you could tell me how many grids are in your design.

There is a photo board full of closed top multi level cages that you can get ideas from. Heres a link for you. Closed, Multi-Level - Guinea Pig Cage Photos

I don't have a cat so I don't know much about cat proofing, but I think elivating the cage off the ground would certainly help. Obviously away from anything the cat could jump onto, allowing acess to the cage.

Cats are great jumpers and climbers.
So even elevating it won't help much :P

OP, I would suggest using grids to make a top and use some shower current rods to add support to the roof where it bends horizontally.
I have a cat, but she is too worn out and old to jump or climb into Whistles cage and give him trouble.

My kitten 2 1/2 month old kitten likes to "stand" with her paws on the coroplast base. My stand is 1 grid high. She also likes to sit on the hay tub, and ay with the hay, and she likes to stand on top, any try to get at them playfully. (She can't reach )

Elevating does help, contrary to what @MrWhistles said. If it was on the floor, she could just sit on the floor and bat at them. Or just walk back and forth, like a lion. At least it takes her some effort to try and get at my babies. Thankfully, she is just curious, and not bloodthirsty! So, at the very least, she can get some exercise!

To make my stand and grid lid for my 2x5, it took me 32 grids, give or take. 10 for the top, 14 for the base outline, and 8 for the supports on the base.I had accidentally bought the bad Target grids, so instead of sitting in the basement, I used those. Hope my set up helps you with yours!

@MrWhistles Well, I figuired it would be worth a shot haha. I don't own a cat, or any other animal, so I can't say much.

    Re: Looking for some plans

My cat is a born hunter. We go to EXTREME measures to protect our other animals. (We own birds and now piggies) My cage could only be two cubes wide because of the top. We got two pieces of wire shelving that is used in closets. We attached them together on the flat end, and then set them on top of the cage. The "lip" of the shelf curves down over the coro. The shelves are 16" wide. And if you make a 2x5- they are 72" long, so you can make them fit perfectly. We spent double the money to get ones that have smaller space inbetween each wire. They are also heavier so the cat cannot move them or cause them to bend. They are $18 each at Lowe's, so our lid cost more than our cage! I have mine elevated and against a wall. our cat cannot paw at them through the grids because of cage placement. She cannot lie on top and reach down through the sides because of the "lip" on the cover that overhangs the grids. Hope this helps

It may deter your kitten now. But she'll get bigger and stronger. Soon she'll be climbing the cage or jumping into it.

@MrWhistles , She won't be able to get in. She's too big to get in now, so she won't be able to get in later. Anyways, as she grows, we'll compensate and reinforce. But I do appreciate your concern for my piggies' safety!
