Opinion On Cage Idea and Setup
We are trying to figure out a great cage set up before we get our lil piggies. I would love your opinions on if this would be a good setup that would work well.
We are planning on making a 3ft by 5ft cage. Making a loft that would be 3ft by 2ft with a 1.5 to 2 ft ramp. We had planned on making the loft area the kitchen so that it could be easily cleaned out daily.
In the kitchen I had planned on putting aspen so that I could just dump it daily. As for the rest of the home we had planned on fleece. I had no plans on sewing them together. Bottom layer shower curtain, then uhaul blanket, then a bed sheet, another uhaul blanket, then anti pill fleece then on top of that a bed sheet ( for easy cleaning of the hay)
is that a good configuration for the fleece in the rest of their cage or should I omit the bed sheet?

Re: Opinion On Cage Idea and Setup
My suggestion is that you not do fleece until you're sure you like the cage configuration. It seems to me that the overwhelming majority of people who build C&C cages remodel them within a fairly short time, and the fleece you cut to fit cage model 1.1 may not work in cage version 1.2.
What's the purpose of the bed sheet between the uhaul blankets? And why two blankets? And if you put a sheet on top of the fleece, you'll partially defeat the purpose of the fleece, because the sheet will stay wet, and your pigs will be sitting/standing/lying in their own urine.

I would get ride of the bed sheet. I have tryed (so easy to clean hair and hay) but all the pee does it puddle up and stink.
Keep your fleece on top and have bedding in your kitcheen area loft.
Your cage ideas sound great! Can't wait to see pictures of when there done

Re: Opinion On Cage Idea and Setup
@bpatters ~ we had a cage before and that was the setup that we had liked the most. Minus the loft area. It gave the piggies tons of room to run around in. I have sat and drawn up tons of ideas and I still keep coming back to this one.
As for the bed sheet between the blankets I had read in a few places that they will stick together so I thought that this might be a good way to keep them from sticking. I also read that using 2 blankets would help to pull the moisture down so that they aren't standing in pee. Thank you for letting me know about the top sheet. that was my concern so I thought I would ask.
@ go_ellie ~ Thank you. I will now be omitting the top sheet from the top.
Thank you
once we can find all the supplies we will slowing be getting started. We wanted to get everything ready and set up before we look for piggies.

Re: Opinion On Cage Idea and Setup
You only need one sheet.
Layer the coro with towels or Uhaul pads. Then put fleece on top.
I do this and I find it works better that two layers of fleece. I once had two layers and the pee would sit in the second layer and really stink. Once layer quickly wicks it into the towels.
Sounds like you have a very good piggie plan!

Re: Opinion On Cage Idea and Setup
We opted to use aspen bedding for now but We are getting ready to start the change over to fleece. I am concerned that just the one layer of fleece and uhaul pad wont be enough. Is that what most people use? I thought about laying a towel down under the uhaul pad. So from bottom up it would be 1 towel, 1 uhaul pad, 1 layer of fleece. Is that to much, just right or not enough? We want to change it about once a week.
