Cork Tunnels: Safe to use? What size should I get?

    Hey everyone,

I'm new to cavvies and am setting up my first cage so that my piggies have a nice home to come back to when I adopt them in about a month. I've got most of the basics set up now and am starting to get some accessories to make the cage more fun.

One of the books I found on guinea pigs mentioned using cork tunnels. They look pretty cool (essentially, they look like hollow logs) and I've found some online, but haven't seen them mentioned on any of the other guinea pig sites or books that I have. The online sites that sell them mention more use with reptiles...

So this leaves me with two questions:
    • Are cork tubes safe for the piggies?
    • Would 4" diameter tunnels be big enough for them to go through?

Here are two sites that I found that sell them:

    Thanks!
