I am getting ready to build my first cage. I am waiting on the coroplast from a friend that makes signs and is giving it to me for free. Unfortunately she only has it in 24" x 36" pieces. Is it going to be ok to piece it together. Do you guys thing it would be ok to use duct tape to piece the coroplast? As long and its underneath maybe? Also I notice almost everyone uses fleece. I bought pine chips which I read are fine for them. Obviously pine chips are messy. Is fleece the best thing? Do you guys feel pine chips are bad for them? Sorry I just have to many questions because I want to build them a good home.

The cages are awesome. I will post photos when I finish mine.

Sorry I quoted you twice it won't post my reply. When we made my guinea pig's cage we tape two pieces of coroplast together. I don't know about pine chips;I think they are bad for guinea pig's feet.

My guinea's current cage, I just finished it and after a 2 week quaratien and a day of meet and greet my 2 cavies just moved in, I am going to add a sky deck on top that will be 4x2 when I get more panels. But for right now Ms. Piggy and Lady Guinievere seem to love their new place.

Everyone's cages look great! My girls Bridget and Buffy have been in a 2x4 with white coroplast for months and months now. I've been so tired of the plain color, but white is the only coro I could find around here. So as soon as I got enough extra $$ to blow, I ordered a purple bottom off of Guinea Pig Zone, and I LOVE IT! Here it is:

Thank you! I was in "love at first sight" with her! But, of course, I love Buffy, too!... They're both my furry little babies!

@shell_l_d I like the design. I have a question and a concern. Are you keeping this cage indoors? And I would add a "wall" or a "guard" along the side of the ramps to prevent a guinea pig from falling and injuring itself.

How many piggies are going into your cage? How big is a single level of your cage length and width? It doesn't look big enough for multiple pigs...

Did you stain the inside of the cage? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's safe for piggies...

shell_l_d your cage looks like it'd be amazing for rats or mice but not for guinea pigs. They aren't really climbing animals, they need more area to run around and do laps in.

That is a beautiful cage but I agree with the others not really suited for guinea pigs... A ferret however would love that cage. or rats

From another thread, she mentioned that there will be 4 pigs and the cage is 47.2W x 12.2D. It's only 4 sq.ft. Much too small for guinea pigs.

@schavarry - The cage is varnished (non-toxic timber & varnish) & fleece bedding will used too.
@RodentCuddles - Guinea pigs (well mine anyways) can & do use ramps, that doesn't require climbing, see all pics in galleries), the timber hutch they are in now has ramps & they love them. There will be some covering on the ramps for traction yet.
@lissie - there is plenty of room, may not be to your website's strict expectations, but it meets shelter/piggie requirements fine. It is far wider/bigger than the timber hutches you can buy.
