    Comfier Cozy Cup

Is there a way to make a cozy cup comfier? Like putting an extra pillow inside? I'm going to Joann's tomorrow to get batting (already have my fleece, very cute btw! ) Also, when the guinea pig pees in the cuddle cup, does it just go to the batting or does it go through the batting, through the fleece, to the bedding below? I know this is like my 3rd post about cuddle cups, but i just want to make sure that everything goes perfect when I make it tomorrow

    Thanks!

    Re: Comfier Cozy Cup

I'm relatively new to using cuddle cups, and I bought mine, didn't make it myself... I do know that the person I bought mine from put an absorbent layer of microfiber towel (I'm assuming kind of like the towels you'd buy from the auto department at the store for drying cars since they're super absorbent) in with the batting. My boys pee all over the thing and I haven't had any leakage through the bottom of the cuddle cup yet, but they have only had it for about a week. So far, it just seems to soak up in the cuddle cup itself, and then I just shake it out and toss it in the wash when it gets a little icky looking.

Mine seems to have batting and a little extra stuffing in it as well as the microfiber towel, too. It doesn't seem too "flat" I guess you would call it? So I'm assuming you could put extra fluff in it to make it a little comfier and that would probably help with absorbing as well.

Hope that helped some, maybe someone who has more experience with actually making them can give you some better insight!

My goodness, but you're still obsessing about this?? Don't feel that your first attempt has to be perfect.......it likely won't be the first time. I have been sewing all my life and it still took me three attempts to make it like I wanted.

Once it is sewn, you have no way--and no need--to know if the urine goes through to the batting. It doesn't matter! All you really need to be concerned about is that the piggy isn't lying in urine all night. The more you wash the items, the better they wick urine away.

My boy is so attached to his cozy sack that he sleeps in it/on it all the time. You need to make at least two sets because if they get heavy use, you will need to switch them out about every 3-4 days.

With regard to making it more comfortable, I use two different types of batting: a fusible type for the sizes which just makes it easier to sew, and a non-fusible thicker type for the bottom. Rather than obsess about the different types, just put two layers of batting in the bottom of the cuddle cup and remember to cut the batting for the bottom slightly smaller than the fleece to avoid bulky seams.

Don't concern yourself with being too creative and trying to add all sorts of things just yet. Just follow the plan, actually make your pattern and start sewing..........and then come back with questions.

Since the batting is sandwiched between two layers of fleece, there is no reason to have to sew the batting along with the fleece because it really won't move around and get displaced. As I said previously, some sewing machines just won't handle two layers of fleece + a thick batting layer, so reducing the bulk of the seams helps a great deal. If the bottom circular part of the cuddle cup is 10 inches, make the batting about 9.5 inches. If you do get the batting caught in the seam, just trim it closely to reduce the bulk of the seam before you turn the item right side out.

    Re: Comfier Cozy Cup

When I made my first cuddle cup, it didn't turn out very well. My pigs still use it and love it. It's just not aesthetically pleasing. The second cup I made turned out perfectly! Then, the third cup I made was better than the first, but not as good as the second.

My point is, stay calm! If it doesn't turn out well, that's OK! Your pigs will still love it! And, yes, you will probably still want a towel or something under it when holding piggies in it. The peep usually leaks through, in my experience.
