    Question Cage for 4 piggies?

    Heyy,

At the minute i have 4 piggies all males and 2 are brothers , they all used to live together all fine and dandy but then the 2 brothers began to fight and we had no choice but to spilt them up at the moment 2 pigs are living in our big hutch (outdoor but its cold so the hutch is in the summer house) and ive had no choice but to put the other two in a cage inside our house, not only to keep our eye on the injured one but just to keep the separated. the cage is far too small but its only for now not a long term home

and so ive the c&c cages and im really interested in getting one, so i could anyone give me ideas for a cage for 4 piggies but with a separation bar between the pairs, i need something that wont take up too much room and willing to have a second floor but would like say the bottom floor to be completely shadowed from the floor above if you know what i mean.

as i said i dont wont it overly large dont have too much room, but if this is a concern i might not have the cage in the house(where id like it to be) but instead in our summer house( log cabin)
another thing is, i live in the uk so the store given isnt shipping to uk, from what i saw so id also like links to things where i could get the grids and the corex stuff that isnt too expensive kinda on a budget

I built a double decker cage that houses 3 females on top and 2 males on the lower level. There's plenty of light in the lower level because it's next to a well insulated patio door and has a large space between the upper and lower levels. If you can't get grids there, see if you can find wire shelving from hardware stores that they can cut to size for you and you can zip tie together. Space was an issue for me and I was able to have a 2 x 5 over a 2 x 4.

    Hey welcome to the forum.

There is a lot of good information around the forums here that focus on different things and a lot of your questions are answered in various topics.

Guinea pigs should never be housed outside. The extreme temperatures both hot and cold can kill your guinea pig, not mention predators have been known to swoop in and kill them as well. They should be in a well ventilated and climate controlled environment.

Males sometimes have issues living together in one cage, but a lot of time the problems are caused because the cage is not large enough. I have had to make a C&C cage in the past with a grid divider for 2 males I have owned before so they could see each other, but not hurt themselves. If one of your guinea pigs is seriously injured be sure you are taking him to the vet ASAP.

I am really glad that you are making a c&c cage! Your pigs will be so much happier. I would say that if you are going to have 2 males with a divider between them, each side should be at least 2 grids wide and 3 grids long. The more, the better! You could definitely make a two story cage and you can find ideas on different styles of cages in the photo galleries!

You should be able to find materials near you instead of having to pay so much money to get a cage shipped to you, but I am not familiar with stores in the UK, but I am sure there are many here that might be able to point you in the right direction.

I hope that helped you a bit. Remember that 4 pigs is a lot of responsibility and you want what is best for them so money does need to be spent to get them the things they need to be happy.

@pinky Your cage is very nice

Thanks. That's Curly Fry. I have another texel with blonde hair with really coarse fur. Curly's fur is easy to maintain but Pichu's fur is a bear..... I have to comb it every single day or it gets matted.

Well at the moment two pigs are living inside our log cabin in a hutch but when the weather is okay we put them in the run to eat the grass and put the back in later. We are planning on taking the injured guinea pig to the vet tomorrow actually, he isnt too badly injured just a view sores but i think its just better to check.
I understand the responsibly i have lots of time on my hands for taking care of them, grooming the etc. i think best is to have a 2x6 grid and have it seperated into 2 and maybe a smaller top floor.

I have 4 males split up into 2 pairs as they were fighting as well. My cage is a 3x7 split into two. The more room you can provide the better. Mine is up on a one level stand so that I can save space by putting all their supplies under the cage instead of else where. And boy so they have a LOT of stuff. Haha...

10.5 sq. ft. for each pair of pigs. 2' by 4' in grids.

For each pair of boars, I'd recommended 2x5. Boars do need more space than sows. I also have 4 boars. 2 in each cage. My cage is 28x96 inches when measured from the inside. It's about the same size as a 2x7 C&C.
