    Adding height to cage

Read the warning about adding height for small pigs or babies. I have my first pig and he is pretty young. Why are we adding height? Is it to block the holes higher up so he doesn't get his head stuck? Or so he won't climb out? How do I know if he fits the "small" category that needs added height? How do you suggest adding height? Thanks!

    Re: Adding height to cage

You're adding height so they won't get stuck AND so they won't climb out -- young guinea pigs are pretty agile.

The GPs need to be somewhat bigger than the holes so that they can't get out -- just how big depends on the size of your pigs and of the holes in your cage.

You can add height just by zip-tying cardboard or coroplast scraps around the cage. It can be taken off when they're a little older.

Are you talking about the actual cage height or the base sides?
