    New Cage :D

    I just wanted to show everyone my new cage I built yesterday! It's not 100% done so I don't want to post it in the galleries yet but I am very proud of it and the piggies have more space! I have little to no space of my own but they are happy at least And the best part is it cost me absolutely nothing to build, I had spare everything from their previous cage, so that's good. Any constructive criticism is welcome!

    You can see the other pics too, if you'd like, in my personal albums; They have descriptions there

    Very nice! It looks really good. What did you use for those white support poles ? I bet your piggies like it. Do they use the ramps?

    The poles are PVC pipes, I put notches in them at the top so they fit themselves under the grids without falling. Yea they seem happier, they took to the ramps pretty quickly actually, within an hour all three braved up top

    Thanks for the comments! I really do appreciate it

    Oohhh...your cage looks really awesome !! What do you use under the fleece Kimberly ? I have my new cage all set up now...( Did anyone else find putting together their C&C cages ( those darn connecters are AWFUL to deal with ! It took us hours and hours putting it together) I am about to go and take advantage of the anti-pill fleece sale at Joanne's fabric store...sure hope it is still on sale though...but what is the best kind of bedding to use underneath the fleece material ? Some say a layer of say, a shower curtain layed down, then a layer of newspaper....what do you recommend ? I like the shower curtain idea..but what do you or anyone else think I should do ? K

    The downstairs is a liner with fleece sewn to a matress pad for absorption, I also have another liner from Jens Custom Crafts which is the same way just thicker since its reversible. The top, for now, is just towels folded with fleece over it. I actually ordered some fleece from Joann on Saturday as well as some Uhaul Furniture Pads for an under absorbent layer. Alot of people are giving great reviews about the uhaul blanket absorbing really well so I want to try it myself. You can also just use towels under the fleece, the shower curtain isnt needed unless you dont have coroplast and newspaper smells awful after only 2 days and is messy to clean

    I've tried em all

    What is a uhaul blanket ?? I am heading out very soon to go and get some fleece from joannes fabric...thank goodness the sale ( 40 % off ) is still going on ! Where do I go to get a uhaul blanket ? And I do have coroplast...so I guess I don't need a shower curtain, right ? Thanks...K

    Good Morning Kimberly !!
    Thank you so much for giving me that link to a uhaul store...I just now purchased 2 uhaul blankets ! I will use those under my pre-washed anti-pill fleece, and then use this thin ( the girl at the sewing counter in Joannes really didn't know much ---but she told me that it is all cotton and it is absorbent..she just didn't really know just how absorbent it is. I already purchased it...so it can't hurt to use that as well. So I will have this thin bed liner on the coroplast first, then the uhaul blanket, then my anti-pill fleece on top of that. That should suffice I hope ! Don't you think ? I need to go to bed now...I was up all night long reading.....have a wonderful day !

    Holy moly. That cage is amazing. Can I ask how much you spent on it? Is a cage with a double decker hard to clean? I want to get another guinea pig next year and would like to upgrade my cage. Your pigs are going to have so much fun! Amazing job! =]

    Thanks !! Well I've been gathering materials for awhile now so I honestly have no clue! I had to buy 1 pack of grids but my grandma had some so they were free !! I used somewhere between 60-70 full grids and about 5 or 6 I cut up for different things, like the bridge. I've actually added to it over the past few days. It's now sturdier, has a new ramp and bridg, and looks even nicer !! I'm waiting to post final pics until my new fleece gets in, (its STILL processing since the 22nd ) I got the Uhaul in today so sometime next week I plan to post the "final" pics.

    EDIT to add: Oh yeah! Uhm cleaning isn't quite "easy" but its not difficult at all just a bit awkward for the vacuum up top and pinning up fleece in the far corner can be a reach but it is DEFINITELY worth it. My piggers are so happy! No bickering at all unless they are all in the kitchen hehe

    @Kathlaaron
    Yeah that sounds like itll work fine! I just have the furniture pads so more protection than me! Glad I could help
