    Where to find coroplast?

I live in Portsmouth, NH, which is a really small town, and I cant find a store selling coroplast anywhere. Im found a store in portsmouth for the cubes, but not for the coroplast, and my mom said only in portsmouth or really close to it, so can anyone help or dose anyone know of a place they went to that sells it?

Is Manchester too far for you?

Have you call local sign stores?

You could tell them it's for guinea pig cage.

Another idea that someone else posted is to ask gas stations or grocery stores if they have old sign they are throwing away. You can also get old political signs for free.

Yah, thanks but I wont be needing it any more. My mom decided she really didnt want to have a huge cage in the house, and that my guinea pig was perfectly happy living in a 4 square foot cage all day by himself in my bedroom.

Well thats just not good enough. Save up your money until you have enough to pay for it yourself. In the mean time keep trying to convince her by writting a reports, making a power point presentations with how cute the cages look. Tell her the benefits about having a bigger cage and a buddy for the piggie. ei healthier, cleaner, less smelly, less vet costs, its not very much more a month for a second piggie etc... I'm sure you can find and get a lot of great advice here on how to convince her. Keep your room really clean and start organizing and donating things that you dont need so you can have the room in your bedroom. I can totally sympathize with you as my parents are like that. I havent lived with them in over 10 years but they still dont treat their pets when they are sick and dont provide them with the best. She has no understanding or compassion for my pets. She used to come into my home and be like "ewww those overgrown rats still havent died. I cant believe how much space, time and money you spend on them... your poor, you have kids now, you should drowned them..." Yeah right. Their care of their pets should not be extended to your pets. Please be sure to save all your money as I fear that when the time comes that the guinea pig needs vet care she will not fork out the money.

Some retailers refer to it as corrugated plastic instead of coroplast.

    Re: Where to find coroplast?

No, My parents will give me vet money and will pay for food, but they are really dog people, and arent exactly in love with guinea pigs. Im writing a report on the benefits of the cage right now, I think maybe if I can show her I put time and effort into it, then she will agree. My mom even told me I should become a lawyer, because when im passionate about something, I dont stop until I get it. I seriously thought I was going to get the cage, because she said we could go get the cubes tomorow, and that if I found a coroplast store ont he way to the place witht he grids we could stop there too, but then when I kept asking her questions about it, which I now really regret, she said what was the point of looking up prices when I wasnt going to get the cage anyways. Its a major step, I think im starting to wear her down a bit, and with some time it just might work, but it may be a while. My parents do care about their animals, but they consider it mine and all the work put into it is my responsibility.

    Re: Where to find coroplast?

Whether they are in love with guinea pigs or not, a spacious cage is not an optional thing. It is a necessity. A mansion versus an apartment - who wouldn't opt for the mansion? It's the same with guinea pigs; a larger cage makes for a healthier, happier guinea pig. You have to convince them on how important a large cage is.

I recommend sitting down with both of your parents and discussing the importance of a large cage. Ask them why they oppose it. Once you know their reasons, you can figure out how to counter those arguments.

Figure out what jobs you can do for either your parents or your neighbors and friends. If you can save the money you earn from those jobs, you can buy the materials to build the cage. Tell them that once you save up enough money, you can buy the entire cage yourself.

I really don't see why a large cage could be bothersome to your parents. Do they think you'll have to pay more for bedding? If so, investigate cheaper bedding options, like fleece.

It would also be a good idea to examine your care routine with your guinea pigs. Do you clean up after the mess from the hay and bedding? Do you need reminding to feed the guinea pigs and clean the cage? If you are inconveniencing your parents in any way, change your habits immediately. If you are helpful around the house and willing to do extra chores, perhaps your parents will see how responsible you are and that you can handle a larger cage.

    Good luck!

    Re: Where to find coroplast?

The problem my parents have with a larger cage is that it will take up space in my room, and they dont like that. That and the fact that they think its perfectly happy living in the tiny cage, are their only reasons. They wont let me use fleece because they dont want to wash it, even if it was by itself. I have already told them I dont care if it takes up more room, im even going to remove some furniture in it to make room, and I am going to pay for everything myself. I just need to make sure they understand its definitly not good for him to be in a 4 square foot cage.

Oh man what a bummer! I was already doing a happy dance for you in the other post I just read saying your mom finally agreed. I hope you can really make them see that it's the best thing for your guinea pig. Good luck! Keep us posted.

    Re: Where to find coroplast?

Hm. I can understand why they wouldn't want you to use fleece - my parents were the same way at first, but now they see how much money it saves and they understand why it is better. One thing you might want to try are these washer bags I have just happened upon, from a UK-based site. They look like they would make it a lot easier and cleaner to wash fleece and towels. Perhaps if you used one of these washer bags your parents would agree to fleece?

If you don't mind having less space in your room, what is holding them back? It sounds like they are just making excuses. If you have room for a desk/workspace, bed, and maybe some clothes or other personal belongings storage, then why would it bother them that you have less space in your room? It really isn't that drastic of an increase in space needed, in all honesty.
I feel your frustration, too. Just keep trying. Eventually, they have to agree.

I know, and thank for all this support. I just keep reminding them about it, and I made my mom read the home page of this website about the bigger cages and she just called it propaganda for people to buy stuff from them, and when I told her they didnt sell things she just ignored me. Sometimes parents can be totaly annoying, but I dont want to be rude or disrespectful to them. I actually have a good relationship with my parents, and every time I bring up the cage my mom just says I should give up because it wont work and its causing us to fight more often.

Propoganda? NOT, they give step by step instructions on how to build your own C&C cage. They are not pushing ordering from them. That's not propoganda. They don't gain anything from you building your own cage. The only ones that gain from these are the lucky piggies who have a C&C cage and the owners who NOW have happy piggies.

Good Luck hun, I hope that they one day realize how beneficial it will be for Oscar.
