    Big enough for two?

Hey I adopted 2 guinea pigs a few days ago and I want to know if this cage (that came with the adoption) is appropriate sized. I'd hate to think that they'd be living with their old owner in a tiny cramped space.

I know, their apples have tipped over.

I'm sorry. But that's not big enough at all. For 2 pigs, that cage should be at least 10.5 sq.ft. See size recommendations here: Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home

The wheel is not safe for them. Please remove the wheel. It could hurt their spine.

Firstly, welcome to the world of guinea pigs

The cage definitely doesn't look big enough. Do you have the dimensions?

The wheel needs to come out. A guinea pigs spine is not flexible, and wheels can seriously damage them. Also I can't quite make out what food they are on (in the feeder) but they should have a high quality pellet. Oxbow and Kleenmamas are a couple of the highest quality pellets available. They also need unlimited quantities of hay, and a wide variety of veggies. The hay is to help with their gut, and also keeps their teeth in shape. The veggies are primarily because guinea pigs can not make their own vitamin c, and without vitamin c they get scurvy.

Be sure to check out all the stickies, located at the top of each section.

Unfortunately no, because they were adopted. and i do not have a ruler large enough.

Would you know where to buy hay in australia? the gold coast specifically?

You can measure it with a 30cm ruler. Just mark where the ruler ends, and then move the ruler up until it hits that mark. Count up the number of 30cm's you get and you should be able to work it out.

Ideally, 2 pigs need a cage 76cmx127cm. They need the room to popcorn and play.

I don't know where to get hay in the Gold Coast (I'm from WA) but know where you may be able to find it out. I will PM you

    Hello and welcome!

As you've probably realized by now from the other posters, your piggers need a bigger cage. The good thing is that building a C&C cage is cheap and easy to do. There are dimensions here (Your Guinea Pig's Home (metric)) and instructions here (How to Make a C&C Cage (metric)) and I'm sure some of our other Australian members can help you find the materials.

We'd love to see pics of your pigs when you get a chance!

    OK I've removed the wheel.
The only place around here that stocks (makes) it is Gold Coast Plastics. But they're making out of acrylic (i queried). Would that be OK?

I'm glad you've removed the wheel. Have you separate the male and female?
Acrylic is fine. You can use anything that's waterproof. Some people use plastic shower curtail, vinyl flooring, plastic table cloth. For the sides, you can use wire closet shelves. Just make sure that the wires do not have spacing larger than 1.5 inches.

Here's an example of cage that's made from wood and acrylic.

    1.5 inches. = 3.81 cm. That's ok.

Yeah i'm just getting them cut from a plastic shop and they only have acrylic.
    Thanks a lot

Is is possible to get another cage and join them by taking one of the ends off? Would give them a little more room. :-)
