I expanded AGAIN!!! I had this idea for a while and finally put it to work. I put my cage on the ground, raised the storage off the ground, and added on a 2X5 to my 3X5 to make one giant L shape. I already love it a lot. When I'm sitting in bed, they aren't just stuck in the dark under the top bunk, they can come out more in the open. I put their hay down there, so that's where they'll probably spend a lot of their time, out in the open in the light and much more social. THey have no problem jumping over the 3 inch coroplast sides.
I like this set up a lot, and so do my pigs! (Maybe it might even last a couple weeks, who knows!
)
This cage has a total of 33 square feet for 2 spoiled rotten pigs.

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
Great cage!
I absolutly LOVE, spoiling my two rotten piggies. I find with two piggies, and a wide imagination, and the brilliant idea of C&C cages, you can make something so extravegent, and know, that the effort you put into it, was truly worth it.
Today I built my guinea pigs (two boars), a bigger cage. Well I had to take it all down, and then rebuild it, while adding more to it. Did I mention it was two cubes up with storage... took me 5 hours to build and 1 hour to take down the first cage.
Literally, my fingers had cuts and scratches that begun to bleed. Horribal feeling in my fingers, but a wonderful feeling in my heart.
The sweat and blood that went into the cage was worth every second and ever pinch of the fingers from building the cage, was truly worth it.
I love your cage, and know, for a fact, becuase I've built a cage like yours, your piggies are very happy. Lucky pigs have a great mom like you!

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
Heh heh thanks!! Angel~anaconda, I know the feeling of sore fingers! Zipties do wonders for holding a cage together, but they make my fingers hurt for days!!
Talking of spoiling animals, I'm laying my head on an old stuffed animal because my cat is curled up in the center of my pillow... and yes I'm perfectly sane..

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
fresian.m, I expanded too, but not nearly as much as you did! I recently redid the bottom of my cage because it was not working for me, and I no longer needed the baby proofing. I was using double grids and I honestly wanted some of the grids back so I could occasionally have floortime in my living room instead of my son's room. So when I redid the cage it ended up being 3x6 grids on the bottom level, a switchbck ramp to the loft, which is 1x5 grids, and a bridge off the end of that into the old pet store cage that is the size of 1x2.5 grids.
The loft we have been using as a kitchen mostly. This is where the pellet bowl stays and a place where we usually put the veggies. The new addition is really only big enough for the 2 pigloos and a hayrack, but this is what I wanted anyhow. I hated having the pigloos take up running space on the bottom level and they hardly ever went in them anymore. They would just stay in the built in hideys under the switchback ramp and that was where all the pooping happened!
So now I wake up in the morning to two happy piggies, who spent all night running around their cage and pooping primarily in the pigloos! It is so much easier to clean all the poop out of the smaller cage and the rest of the cage is so much cleaner! They love the bridge and they have hay and water in all 3 areas. We are all so happy!
I store the box of hay in between the two upper level areas, so it is easy to get to and the 1x5 is attatched to the bottom level, but the addition is sitting on a coffee table. My kids school table is right next to the cage in the large family room that we use for virtual school at home (a bit different from home school, but the kids are home all day with me) and we spend all day interacting with the piggies!
Oh, and since I took some of these pics I cut the entrance tunnels off the pigloos to make them wider and they take up less room in what I call the "bedroom" (but maybe we should call it the potty! hehe)

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
So I think you beat me in square footage. My bottom level is only 22 sq.ft.! But if I add on the two upper levels (6 + 3 sq.ft.) and the running room that the ramps add (1.5 + 2 sq.ft.) then I have more. ;-P Just kidding. We all know that only the bottom level counts!

You are a crazy girl, and I love it! I'm sure your piggies are LOVING the new space. After all the hard work, I love watching my piggies cautiously explore an area unfamiliar and then popcorn like heck!

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
Shauna&Kerri- Your cage looks awsome! Great job.
Yeah I love watching htem explore to
I put a ginormous pile of their new KM's hay at the end, they had a blast. They were chasing each other around, and then one would burrow under the hay pile and hide, then the other would come and chase him out. It was hilarious! I'm really satisfied. They've both been conked out for a while, exhausted after their adventures.
Oh, and yes OFCOURSE I'm crazy!! It's one of my personal traits and I'm proud of it.

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
Your pigs are so lucky! Mine feel very jealous. Now I feel like cutting the zip ties on one side and making an L shaped for them - but I'm scared to cut off all those zip ties! (Really, I used 800+ for the whole cage.)

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
Yeah now that I've had this cage for 1 day, I'm already about to change it. Don't worry, just adding on a loft
. Nothing TOO drastic. I need help deciding where to put it, suggestions? I want my cage to stay open and light, and still be easy to clean.

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
I don't really care how large it is, as long as it's easy to clean and doesn't make half the cage all dark. And yes, only 1 grid wide. Anything that will fit in my cage. (: I have a lot of grids left.

Ok thanks! I'm not in any rush.. my room needs work. Everytime I work on my cage, my room turns into a disaster zone.

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
LOL! Nah, not anymore. THey used to complain, but I talked to them about it a bit, and now they're ok with it... well my mom is at least. My mom's only requirement is it can't completely dominate my room. Though our ideas of dominating are different, mine is the cage actually making it so you can't walk, my mom's is well... this cage to her is dominating, but too bad, I've already built it!! Heh heh. I just keep thinking of ideas, then build it, then change it again. It's fun to do, and I'm glad my mom will let me do it.

hmm I think this cage is helping their ongoing dominance issues. It's almost like 2 seperate cages, so they can have their own half. Pippin has claimed the 2X5 (the side with the big pile of hay) and Merry's claimed the 3X5.

I love looking at all of the cages on this site. I have gotten some ideas for how to set up my girl's cage. Right now she's in a 2x5 with a 2x1 kitchen in an L shape.

Lucky! Now I really wish I didn't put so many zip ties, I've just gotten another idea for the main floor...normally I just get different ideas for the lofts.

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
Oh chute! I forgot. I'd love to make a loft.. but I need to set up some sort of floortime arrangement that's easy to set up for during the week... but first off I don't know if I have enough grids and second I don't have a single zip tie. I definitely can't use my grids for a loft. I really really want to make one though..
Well I've now made up my mind for the loft.

Re: I expanded AGAIN!!!
You can get like, a box of 650 white zip ties for seven, eight dollars at Home Depot.
I wouldn't worry about a loft - you have so much space as it is!!
