I just wanted to adopt two piggies!

I've convinced my boyfriend to let me adopt a couple more piggies. We have two adult boars and one 3mth old boar. The adults get tired of my young piggies energy quite quickly and I feel like he has no one to get in trouble with. Hence, looking to adopt a couple more young piggies so they can go on adventures and get in trouble together.

I had wanted to bring in two piggies from the same place so that they'd be heading into this new world with a friend. I haven't had much luck finding anything for weeks. Finally, last night, I posted a wanted ad on craigslist and woke up to an email!

They have three piggies at 6mths. Soooo, now I'm wondering... Do I have room for three piggies, making a total of 6? I'll post a picture, but I have a 2x7 L-shaped base with a 2x3 U-shaped loft.

    Thoughts?

No, that's definitely not enough cage space for six guinea pigs (especially boars). The loft doesn't count for square footage.

I don't know the answer to your question about the cage, but glad you posted a want ad on CL. It seems very sensible if you are looking for guinea pigs as there are many people who might be thinking of rehoming and would make the decision if they knew for sure they were going to a good owner ! Keep us posted, OK?

Thanks Duff, will do. I'm sad that I most likely won't be able to take these piggies in as I just can't add anymore space to the cage without my boyfriend killing me.

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

I would be wary about putting six boars in that cage, but I think five would be okay.

I've never been creative with my cages, but, could you cut out the "L" and have a big square cage? Or, separate the boars into groups and have one cage on top of the other, thus taking up the same floor space, just taller? Lots of people here do that and it makes sense, just a bit harder to clean the lower one I suppose.

I think this is a great idea. Actually, you could remove the U-shaped top (which is very cute, but doesnt count towards floor space, as I'm sure you know) and add the grids (and coro?) from it to the front of your L-shape to make a huge square - looking at it, I think it would be 4x5.

I think since it's an L Shape and they are boars, you could probably fit four pigs.

Re: I just wanted to adopt two piggies!

A couple more thoughts. Are you sure they are all male? I'd not want you to end up with a pregnant female. Then you'd be in trouble with the boyfriend for sure ! And, just because it is the first response to your want ad, if you don't feel you can take three more, then perhaps it is not in the cards to do it. Do you know any others who'd like to take a pair .. or another GP person who could add one of the three to their herd? Just tossing out some options for consideration !
