Hi,

My 3 boys and I are fairly new to guinea pigs and before we got our two sweet girls we did a lot of research and I love the open cube cages.

I have found clean up to be a little tedious - particularly with the size and that if the bedding doesn't carch all the urine, it sticks and is nearly impossible to get off with any type of cleaner.

We tried just the felt and that was messy to the poor piggies and since I'm a single mom and work all day, the daily intense care was tough for us.

So I came up with something that works great for us. I put the felt down and I use binder clips to make it so they won't burrow under (ew, they did that once and it was horrible!). Then I put down some bedding - good enough layer to keep the piggies out of the urine and poops.

Past that point your set up is your own. We make a hiding spot and have some edible houses and such. We change it up a lot to make it fun for them. Always keeping the outside "track" open for those frequent runs they love!

But here is the easy part: You remove clips, pull up the corners to "bag" the bedding. Then you slide that into a large garbage bag and shake into the bag. When you get most off you can then take the blanket outside and either shake it or if you prefer brush it off into the trash. Then we wash the blanket in hot water and have a second one ready to re-set up the cage.

Now I have an added part - it's not necessary but again I dislike scrubbing off the urine. I purchased a few of those waterproof crib pads for babies and I put those under so the urine never sticks to the cloroplast. Again, these wash and I have a second set on hand for quick change. It takes two of the crib pads for my cage.

It's really easy. I'm guessing I'm not the first to try this but who knows? I have submitted pictures but since I'm new I don't know when this post or the pictures will load.
