Question When is it safe to remove walls

My girls are about 9 weeks old. I have the coroplast walls at about 10 inches high. I plan to move them to the basement pretty soon so I can build them a humongous cage (2x6 with two 2x2 side...will look like letter U). They are currently in a 2x3 with a 1x2 loft. I would like to eventually remove the coroplast and the walls. My basement floors are vinyl. I will continue to use the fleece and towels. I will just mop the area when needed. How old do they have to be so I can safely remove the walls without any danger of them trying to squeeze through them?

PS. My basement is a 3 room apartment with is currently rented. We are no longer going to rent because we need the extra space. We have plans to use it as a tv/toy/computer room. So our girls will get tons of human interactions and a much bigger floor time space (12 feet by 12 feet...wow). Plus it has windows that allow indirect sunlight in.

They need to be big enough so that they cannot get their head through the grid holes. It can be different times for different pigs depending upon their growth.

I have changed my mind. I will not risk it. I will continue to use colorplast. Thank you.

The cage you're planning sounds fabulous! Lucky piggies.

If you want to give them more view to see out, you could double up
the grids (if you have or can easily get extra) or rather overlap them so
the holes are half the size. Then you could just have the coroplast high enough
so the piggies don't make a mess outside the cage by kicking around hay, etc.
The coro is good for keeping the area around the cage neat.

I would at least use the coroplast on the bottom and at least 4" sides preferably 6". The urine will get into the vinyl flooring and the smell won't come out with all the washing you can do.

I can't wait. I have their cage planned out. One of the 2x2 sections will be their sleeping area. I am going to make them "queen" beds and matching fleece curtains. The other 2x2 will be their kitchen area. That leaves the 2x6 for play and fun. I also want to add a door so that can have floor time. The room I have planned for them is a 12 foot by 12 foot. There are not wires or gaps in this room so they will be pretty safe.

I think I will do just that. Stick with coroplast. I won't need much more because I have some leftover at home plus what they have right now can be modified and reused.

    I spoil my girls.
