    Floors to cold for pigs?

I was just wondering about this, I have seen lots and lots of cages that are sitting on the floor. I was just wanting to know if it is better to have your cage up on something instead of sitting directly on the floor. I always thought that the floor would be colder for them. I have mine on cube stands made out of grids but would love to use those grids to expand the top level of my cage. I appreciate all comments and suggestions!!

I have my cage on the ground. I have a thermometer zip-tied onto the side of the cage, so if it gets too cold I put in some extra fleece to for the pigs snuggle in and a hot water bottle.

Thanks so much for the info, I was just worried about putting her cage on the floor, it's wooden floors so that is what worries me. How cold is to cold for the piggies really?

Wood floor should be fine. I would only be worried about tile. If your nervous, just put some extra layers of towels or fleece, then give them some loose fleece to snuggle in. Do you live where it snows a lot? I'm pretty sure they would be fine unless its drafty.

I have always wondered this What exactly is a hot water bottle? Is it just what it sounds like? A water bottle with hot water in it?

A modern hot water bottle, used commonly in the British Isles (and former colonies) is a flat, squarish rubber bottle with rounded edges, with a plastic stopper that screws in. Traditionally hot water bottles are made of pink or red rubber. Hot water, not quite boiling, is poured in from an electric kettle and the water bottle is taken to bed as a kind of bed warmer. Often nowadays they come with fleece covers to make them snugglier.
In America you can sometimes find them; they were given to sick people to keep them extra warm.
Hot water bottles were mostly replaced by electric heating pads in America. They are still culturally important in the British Isles since people traditionally like to keep their bedrooms colder at night than most Americans could stand. It is not considered healthy to have too warm a bedroom in winter. Central heating did not become common in British houses until the 1960s and 1970s (some people still don't have it). But bedrooms, in my experience, are not kept over about 68 degrees except for children and old people.
