Right now I have a 2 x 4 c&c cage for 2 boars( only one lives in it cause the other one is in quarentine) and soon I will be adding my second boar into the cage and should I expand to a 2 x 5 c&c(13 square ft) before I add my second boar or is my 2 x 4 fine? It would only cost another 6 or so dollars. So basicaly is a 2 x 4 big enough or should I expand? |

If you have the space available, I would suggest expanding. A 2x4 is preferred for 2 pigs, but boars tend to need a bit more space than sows. |

If you have the space expand. I have 2 girls and they are in a 3x4 |

You are always better off to go bigger. I personally have all cages that are bigger then what is recommended. It will help cut down on possible sqabbles. |

I believe a 2X4 is fine... I started out with a 3x4 after Santino and Barney were introduced. Recently I downsized to a 2x4 (with two areas bumped out of the 2x4 for kitchens and potties) and they do really well with that. I was worried about it because they were used to the 3x4 and with them being male, I was hesitant to go down a size, but it didn't have any affect on their behavior, so I think it would be okay! I think a 2x5 would be awesome though! I didn't even think to make mine that way...it was so difficult trying to clean the back of the 3x4, so now that you posted this, I may have to make mine a 2x5, because I'll still be able to reach the back just like I am now! Thanks for the suggestion, even though that wasn't your intention |

If you have enough space, expanding is always better. It will reduce the possibility of them not getting along. My 2 boys lived in a 2x6 before I adopted the third. I would have expanded if I won't get yelled at. |

I would say also, if you have the space, expand to either a 2 X 5 or 3 X 4. I have one level that's a 3 X 4, and if you are using fleece for bedding, then the 50" X 60" fleeces fit perfectly in that area, just a side note. |

I know I already posted my thoughts in this thread, but I definitely agree with everyone else that bigger is better so don't really take my other post to heart. 2x4 will work...but if you have the means to do it, then go bigger!! Last edited by Heady; 11-05-09 at 04:09 pm. Reason: Agh! |

angiekay - I just built a 3x4 yesterday and it was SO much easier than my 2x5 to set up! You're right, the fleece throws fit perfectly. Now I'm considering giving both sets 3x4s, it's a bit of a bother to lay down the fleece in the 2x5, and fold, and tuck, and scootch, and pull, and push, and ARGH. |
