Re: hamster cage as second level?

Have you seen this ramp? Easy Ramps, #01 - Guinea Pig Cage Photos
It won't take up any running room.

I use the same concept, except mine has 2 sides for the upper part of the ramp. I have two 1x2 haylofts at each end of the cage. The ramp is working really well for me. I have a 2x6 though. I think this type of ramp should work for a 2x4.

Re: hamster cage as second level?

@JD the front says that a 2x3 is big enough for 1 guinea pig, not two. Then the 2x4 is big enough for 2 , and 2x5 for 3.

I don't see how you're confused and saying that it's not clear?

Re: hamster cage as second level?

7.5 sq ft10.5 sq feet 30" x 50" 2x4 grids27" x 56

That's what the front says. :P That 2x3 (7.5sq feet) is the minimum for 2 but 2x4(10.5 sq feet) is recommended.

So when people just see the front page they think oh my 2x3 is fine. But then they come onto the forum and post that they have two boars in a 2x3 and get lectured for having their boars in too small a space. Which I why I said it would be nice to have a note that says the minimums are for sows only or something. Or just put the recommends since the minimums are definitely not considered acceptable by the general posting populus here.

Though I've totally derailed the conversation I didn't mean to.

Re: hamster cage as second level?

If you really want to put that cage to use, what I'd do is take the top (wire) part of the ham cage, turn it upside down (& hang it from the top of the cage) an make it a giant hayrack

I don't know how big your boars are, but 7" x 20" is mighty small, barely enough room to maneuver, its not worth it as a 2nd level.

Re: hamster cage as second level?

I made a second level out of a bin with wholes in the sides the size of a pc monitor replaced with hardware mesh for air and the new level is 14" by 21" so I put 2 hideys up there the food the hay ect and the only thing on the floor it one house and the water bottle spout.
