Question Ramp Buissness

My guinea pig has just got a brandnew cage! It is two story and I keep on puting her on the second floor and she comes down but she doesn't seem to go up. In her old cage she had a toy with a ramp and it took about a week for her to figure it out, but 2 weeks have passed. Please help!

Re: Ramp Buissness

What size is the cage ? Have you tried putting pieces of your piggies favourite veggie along the ramp to encourage it to go up ?

Re: Ramp Buissness

Her cage now is about 1 metre wide and probally half a metre tall. Her second floor goes to about half a metre, so it doesn't run to one side to the other. I have tried putting all sorts of food on the ramp, but she is a little cheater and grabs it from the side. If she can't reach it, she'll ignore the food. Thanks for helping!

Re: Ramp Buissness

1 meter wide. How long is it ?. I take it it's a store bought cage like the 2 leval one's ? She may just not like the ramp or maybe it's steep for her.

Re: Ramp Buissness

Oops, sorry. I meant it's about 1 metre long. About half a metre wide. The ramp is quite flat. The other one that I had was steeper, I don't know why she won't go up.... Thanks for repling!

Re: Ramp Buissness

Maybe you could make her a C&C cage and make a shorter ramp for her?

Re: Ramp Buissness

Yay! Don't worry, she has gone up. I think she goes up in the night because when I woke up I was watching her and she just walked right up! I am so glad! Thanks for helping!

Re: Ramp Buissness

As I said in your other thread...

51 cm by 113 cm is equal to about 20 inches by 44 inches, which in grid cubes would only be about 1 and a half grids by three grids. Too small for one pig, especially if there is a ramp which detracts even MORE from size.

Re: Ramp Buissness

Upper leval does not count . You need a minimum of 30" x 36"(inches) / 76 x 91cm. By the time you put in a pellet bowl, veggie dish, hay rack, hidie, cozie or what ever you use,you are decreasing the size.

Re: Ramp Buissness

You should probably read the home page to this website.
Here is a link for easy access. Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home
Also you should read this page: Guinea Pigs Social Life
And for more encouragement: Cubes and Coroplast

read those three cages and you should understand why the little tiny space you're giving your guinea pig is not enough.

Re: Ramp Buissness

I think by this stage we have seen 4 or 5 different measurements in 2 threads. Can you post a link to the photo of the cage. Maybe upload it on photobucket ?

Re: Ramp Buissness

Make sure you measure the main floor of the inside of the cage. The inside is the usable area. We just need to know how long the cage is and how wide.

Post it in this thread only and not in all three of your threads about your cage. It's confusing people and considered cross posting which is not allowed.

Re: Ramp Buissness

This is the measurments.
1m 20cm X 60cm
I will be putting fleece around the whole cage this weekend, since my guinea pig hasn't pooed in her upper deck. She is mainly using the litterbox which is very pleasing, she always loved to poo in her food bowl so I got her a litterbox.
