Finished building, but....

So last night my dad and I built a 2x6 with a 1x2 hay loft thingy. However, he bought 2 sheets and therefore we have like a 48"x56" piece left over. I want to expand the cage to maybe a 2x7 or 2x8 or eve a 2x9. I'll just cut a line down the middle, fold a middle piece without sides and tape it in. Has anyone tried this? I don't want all this coro to go to waste and I still have like 40 grids. But then again my dad already thinks it's oversize (he wanted 2x3) so he might get mad. REALLY mad. But then again, I paid for it and we have the space. What do you think?

Re: Finished building, but....

Honestly, I wouldn't push it any further with your folks right now. You already have gotten them to go along with a big enough cage for a three or four pig herd, and I know it's been dicey to get your folks to go along with any of this.

There are tons of good uses for coro and grids, and it never hurts to have extra. People have made fabulous hideys out of the coro. I have a 16-grid playpen for my boars, which is zip tied together, and collapses to fit within its original box - I can use that for them outside so they can graze, or put it on a tarp indoors, and it's easy for me and fun for them. I've also used extra grids to build storage so that I can keep their supplies nice and neat. Just some ideas. I'd set it aside someplace, have your pigs for a while, and see where it might come in handy after you've had some time with them.

I would save your coroplast for now incase you need to replace the coroplast in the future that way it's there. If anything once your parents get used to this cage maybe they'll see the change and allow to expand when the time is right. Extra grids are great for floor time.
