C&C Cage... help!

Okay so this may be self explanatory, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I want to make a 2x4 grid C&C cage, and I'm going to call fastsigns today and see if they carry coroplast. Anyways, if they do, how much do I need? I see it says 30" x 50" is that correct? or do I need to get a little bit more? My boyfriend is going to help me make the cage, I just want to make sure I get the correct amount of coroplast. By the way I'm going to be using the 14-inch grids. Thanks.

~Sarah

Re: C&C Cage... help!

If its a 2x4 with 14 inch grids then the bottom will be 30"x60" and you will need extra depending on how tall you want your walls to be. If you want 4" walls you will need 38"x68" minimum. Measure 3-4 or 5 times and cut ONCE!!!

Thank you so much! Would you say 4" walls is a good height? I have never owned guinea pigs before, and I haven't even adopted any yet. I just wanted to have a cage ready. Thanks again.

Re: C&C Cage... help!

I would get the full 4'x8' sheet. They may cut it to size for you which would be nice (it's what I did) and then you can use any extra to make litter boxes and such.

My sides are 6"

I called fastsigns and they sell 4'x8' sheets for $25, so that's what I will be buying. I just realized that's pretty large though and I don't think it will be fitting into my small car. I may have to borrow my dads truck or it may possibly fit in my boyfriends back seat of his car. They are only open til 5pm today though and then closed for the weekend. I may just have to start next week. I'm going to Costco this weekend though to see if I can at least buy the grids for now.

Re: C&C Cage... help!

Before you buy that, check this site: GE Polymershapes, Branch Locator
They might have a location near you. I got my coroplast for $10 for 4'x8' sheet.

2x4 cage bottom is not 30"x60". If you look at how to make page, it says the bottom is 27" x 56".
How to Make a C&C Cage

If you use 4" sides, just add 4" around. You'll need 35"x64".

I ended up looking at the page on how to make the cage and realized my answer was right there. I do apologize for asking a question that was already posted somewhere. I also checked out that link you gave me, unfortunately the only loaction closest to me is about 2hrs away. I've called around at about 4 locations close by and one wanted to charge $30 for a sheet. I did find a company called Morgan Sign Co. and they sell them for $18 a sheet, but they only have white. That was the cheapest I could find locally. Anyways, thanks for your help

Re: C&C Cage... help!

You're welcome Do you plan to use fleece in your cage? If not, 4" sides maybe too low. Your pigs will kick out bedding everywhere. You might want to check out fleece in the bedding section. It will help you save so much money in the long run.

I think i've decided to make the sides at least 6" tall. I don't know about fleece though as I don't really use animal products if it's not necessary. Is there any synthetic material to use instead of fleece?

Thank you! I didn't know if it was safe to roll it or if it would make it all funky when you went to un-roll it.

Fleece is synthetic. It's 100% polyester.

Oh...I thought we were talking about fleece from a sheep. I just assumed all fleece was from sheep. Shows how much I know...

Re: C&C Cage... help!

Aw... it's ok! Fleece is a great bedding! Fleece is popular with the piggies too! Make sure that when you buy it, you have to wash 3-4 times so that the fleece can wick(When urine goes through the fleece and into an underbedding) urine. A great tip is to add some white vinegar to the fabric softer section of the washing machine, so the fleece would wick better. For more info on fleece click there>,http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ect-study.html

Thanks, you all are a big help, and I'm already starting to learn so much just from looking around this forum. It really does have a wealth of information!
