Is the kitchen an ok location for a piggy cage?

The title says it all really..

I'm debating between keeping the cage in the living/dining room or the kitchen. For us the kitchen would be more convenient since feeding and cleaning facilities would be right there and the room is used regularly so they would very much be in the center of family life and all.
My concern is mainly with us cooking in there.. would the smell of cooking meat disturb them? it might be a silly question but i dunno, they might see it as a threat?
And i dunno if there are other issues i should be aware of. If anyone else keeps or has kept their pigs in the kitchen i would very much appreciate your advice! Thank you!

Re: Is the kitchen an ok location for a piggy cage?

I used to keep my piggies cage right next to the kitchen area (our kitchen, dining and living room are one long room). They did fine there. They were about 15 ft away from the stove, far enough away to not get spattered or spilled on. It was a great location for them for all the reasons that you mentioned. The major change that we made was to quit using non-stick (primarily Teflon) pots and pans. Teflon, at high temps, releases noxious stuff into the air. The cooking odors didn't seem to bother them but, best of all, they were CLOSER TO THE FRIDGE!

hmm i'll have to look into that pan business! i think we've only got 1 nonstick though so if it's dangerous we wont have to replace everything!

We have ours in the kitchen, the other end to the stove. It is perfect for us. You can sweep the floor if bits of shavings get onto it instead of cracking out the hoover every time and we use the kitchen all day so they get the best amount of time with us.
