I had a mis hap with my coroplast but I made it work and charlie loves it!

Why can't you make them something that actually meets their needs instead of being "a couple inches away" from it? Would you want to live in a house that's "a couple square feet away" from your needs? Why take all this time and buildup for something that's less than adequate?

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're finally getting them into something other than a glorified litter box, but really, is it so hard to do for them something that you'd want done for yourself? They are depending on you, after all.

What is the point of doing this? Are you ever going to get these animals into a decent cage?

Paula, in the picture in the gallery, it looks like a 2x3 with a loft. I'm not really sure where the 1/4 or couple inches away comes in....

Re: We're building our cage!

If she has 2 females then a 2x3 is ok. Not the best but satisfactory.

I've looked at that picture up, down, and sideways. It's certainly not a 2x4 and I don't see this extra 1/4 unless it's in the loft. The loft isn't 2x2 but it does seem to go back a little more than 1 grid so maybe that's where the 1/4 is?

Regardless, at least these pigs are finally getting out of the pet store cage. Someday

First of all, the reason why its a couple inches is because my Dad built it that way. Not me.

Second, I know their depending on me and I do care for them. A LOT.

I put them in there for 5 minutes so they could get used to it. I will be putting them in there.

The top part(The eating area) came apart last night and we just got home so we haven't had time to fix it. So the top level isn't done.

Yes, I certainly appreciate that these poor things might eventually be allowed to live in a cage that's large enough and far better for them. What worries me is the potential addition of a third pig when it sounds like this cage might be just short of appropriate for two.

You know, you keep coming back to this. In the end, it doesn't matter WHO does the building, the pigs NEED more room that what you/your dad/whoever are seemingly willing to provide.

I understand that, and I believe that you do, but caring about them and actually providing the things that meet their needs are far different.

They aren't going to get used to it after 5 minutes. Can't you just finish the cage and be done with it? Let them move into a home they'll enjoy and be far more comfortable in, don't put them in and take them out over and over again - that accomplishes nothing and is confusing to the pigs more than anything else.

Re: We're building our cage!

Can't you put them in the 2x3 and put there food in downstairs until you get the loft done?

Re: We're building our cage!

Your photo of your "half done" cage has been removed from the galleries. The reason I removed it is because it is not the size you claimed it to be nor is it safe as it is. When you get your cage fully done, you can upload new photos of it to the galleries.

Re: We're building our cage!

I do Vicky. Let me get them uploaded. My girls are in the cage and they LOVE IT! It is so exciting to see Carly doing these laps(She runs around the cage in about 2.5 seconds)

That is a picture of the whole cage

This is the eating area(With Sandy in it)

And this is the sleeping/playing area

Re: We're building our cage!

Cute! I'm happy you expanded it.
You should try to limit their pellets 1/8-1/4 of a cup a day per pig though.
edit- Do they have access under the loft?

Yes, there's a hidden area underneath the loft for privacy. That's where they go the most.
Yeah, I know I should Its just once you get into the habit, its hard to break. If you know what I mean

It doesn't look like it since there isn't any coroplast under most of the loft.

There is space underneath there for them though. It just not fully underneath the loft.
