Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

When you call around, ask for corrugated plastic sheet. Some places may not know Coroplast.

Try this place. I got a 4x8' sheet for $10 from the location near me. They are located in many states and also have international locations. They only open M-F during business hours. So might not be as convenient as other sign stores but definitely worth it. I think they only have white sheets. I've been recommending this place to everyone, I feel like I should get some sales commission

Yes Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

All my local sign shops asked the same price $18 a sheet and it comes in ALOT of colors. That to me is worth the extra money to get the color YOU want So, I think I got a pretty good deal even though I did end up choosing BLACK So, I would imagine you can find this material at ANY sign shop if you call it by the "right" name they understand. Corrugated plastic probably is safe enough

Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

I wish I can get a color sheet at that price. I got a red sheet for $30 at another store. I've been quoted $48 by some sign stores.

Make sure they KNOW what you want it FOR. They lower the price once you tell them it is for a guinea pig cage. If they won't, then try a printing shop or a hobby store and ask for corrugated plastic sheets. Hopefully that will help you but depending on your location, yes, some places will charge an arm and a leg for the stuff to make a huge profit. Sad but too often true. I wish you the best of luck in your search for a decent price. I got lucky someone from this forum told me to look at sign stores OR printing shops. GOOD LUCK

Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

Before you say hobby store, I'm a former drone of the Lob of Hob and can assure you that they don't have any. A family member is a Michael's Drone master and he speaks to the same assessment. You won't find Coroplast at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.

If local sign shops are out, however, check your local political office, as they might have a few extra large signs for "Bill Curtis for 3rd District School Superintendent" or "Horatio Cain for 5th Circuit Court Clerk" or what have you, post election day. (I can't help it, my boys love watching A&E.)

Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

I was informed that hobby stores do NOT carry coroplast. MY mistake. I am sorry to pass along erroneous information. I was told by someone they carry it but I went to the sign stores first and never checked the hobby ones in my area. Excuse the misinformation I may have caused someone

No no!

I think you mis-read my tone! I did not mean to upset or offend anyone at all. I was only letting you know that Hobby Lobby and Michaels, the biggest chain hobby stores don't carry it. A smaller one might.

I'm really sorry if you thought I was angry, I was trying to make light of the hatred I had for that job. I was only joking.

Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

I've heard some Home Depot's carry it but I've never been able to find it in the Home Depot's I've been to or the people have no clue what I am talking about even when I say "corrugated plastic".

A.C. Moore actually does sometimes carry coroplast, but only in small sheets.

I finally found some in my Home Depot, but it isn't in large sheets. It's small pre-printed signs and one smaller blank sign by the For Sale signs and such. They were only about 12x18" if even. Maybe okay for a small extension but would be pretty useless for an entire cage in my opinion.

Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

LOL Ly!!! I too have had the talk with not so intelligent employees at home depot. I think they strive for hiring the least helpful employees. I found my coroplast for $7 for a 48"x48" piece at Mills fleet farm. The trick was searching every area on your own. My husband found it and it was marked as plastic sheet(ing). I believe he found it in the building supplies.

No I am sorry if you misread MY tone I tend to talk somewhat formally and sound somewhat "know it all" alot LOL. SORRY I did not think you were angry and it is quite true I got my information wrong. Sign stores and printing shops I have been told are the best bets but I got lucky my first phone call to a sign shop that it is carried by ALL the sign shops in my area and the price is the same all around $18 a sheet. I called two other shops and sure enough $18 any color. Anyway, no offense taken by your post. Sorry again I come off somewhat "mouthy" THANK YOU for your correcting my misinformation

Bwahahahahaha! *dies laughing*

I love the internet! I think we have come to an impasse of apology. A Canadian standoff if you will. (No offense meant to my Canadian friends. Meant as a joke against a Mexican Stand off.)

Money Re: Cardboard vs coroplast

Recently, I was looking to add on to my cage (flying ball of guinea-rage, I'd rather not discuss further) and contacted my mom who works at a screen graphics place.

They call corrugated plastic "Gator Board," and sometimes have scraps. Unfortunately, I needed more than the scraps they had on hand, so I went to the local sign shop. $16 for a piece 62"x20" already cut to size. Took a total of five minutes. Awesome.

I am SO GLAD you found it at a local sign shop. My shop even DELIVERED it FREE since it was a hop skip and a jump down the street and when the delivery man saw where it was GOING, he told me he used to LIVE right across the STREET 15 years earlier. What a happy coincedence so I am so glad you found sign stores do have it or can get it. I am happy for you and I hope other people find out about sign shops too as most SHOULD be able to order it for them

Interesting. I never would have thought of Walmart carrying it. Yes, I hope everyone can find it at a local sign store. I was lucky to have many stores TO choose from
