Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Both pigs have a room to themselves and i have been trying to train them for the past two weeks. I have a litter tray with wood shavings and straw in one corner for them to poop and a hay box in another corner along with veggie bowl and pellets. But they both insist in peeing and pooing in the hay box. It's a big waste of money. I tried switching boxes and moving trays but nothing has worked. Any help would be great. |

They will only train if they have the inclination to do so. Have you tried putting the hay in a rack above the hay box? This way they may still go in the box but the hay will be higher and they won't be pooing and peeing directly in it. |

Guinea pigs, unlike cats or rabbits, can't really be reliably litter box trained. Some will catch on and do it on their own, but generally speaking, they are not animals that are going to learn to use a litter box and do so with any predictability. I think the best thing you can try is going to be to put their food, hay, and water in the area where you want them to go to the bathroom, as the area where they eat tends to be the area where they use the bathroom most often. |

Thanks i'll give it a try. I hate putting the hay in the garbage after a few hours but i couldn't stand to see them eat hay that they have peed on. Ewwww. I was thinking of getting them a hayball(don't know the correct word) you stuff the hay inside and they pull it out. In the morning i'll put everything together and see how if goes. Thank you all. |

Skunk in the Hay Ball - Guinea Pig Cage Photos Hay-Ball Hidey-Hole No-No - Guinea Pig Cage Photos I also had a pig get her head stuck in one of those hanging ferret veggie balls. I know you said they're in a room and not a cage, but if you look through the hay rack photo gallery you may find something that will work out better for you and their set up. What about something like this? Coke Box = Hay Bin - Guinea Pig Cage Photos |

Try this. My boys loved it (while it lasted). I no longer have space for a large cage. Hay Rack Hidey House - Guinea Pig Cage Photos |

Instead of making a new thread i'll up date this instead. Both the girls were doing well in the potty training department. But poppy being the lazy pig that she is now couldn't care less and poops and pees in the corner that she sleeps in. (fleece tent, fleece hung over one corner of the cage) She's such a stinky butt. I have scooped her poop and scattered it on the litter try but it hasn't worked. She was doing so well but now she couldn't care less. Princesses fleece tent is at the other corner, bone dry and stink free. She loves to sit on the litter tray and eat hay. |

I just bought a large 'potty' for Milly and Molly. Hopefully they will use it. I put Potty Litter in it with their hay and pellets. I am not going to use the Potty Litter anymore because its already gone and it barely covers the potty! I'm just going to use hay in it from now on. |
