C&C: Convincing mom about C&C Cage.

I had a C&C Cage once. Crap cages. It kept falling apart and my guinea pigs could knock them over.


Maybe it might of just been my cage but oh well.

It probably was your cage because they are very sturdy cages -especially if you use the connectors. I'm guessing it wasn't put together correctly. When it is, it doesn't fall apart.

Hmmmm..... I can't help but wonder why you would describe a C&C cage like this on a forum that is actually from the C&C cage website!

Looking at the hundreds of C&C cages in the photo galleries it would appear that they are actually rather popular so they can't be that bad.

I've just built my first C&C cage - unoccupied at present but looks good so far! My husband was very unsure about the whole concept despite me showing him multiple pictures etc. Since seeing the cage up he's very impressed with it. We're big fans of all pets having plenty of space to run around in so we're really pleased with it!

What I will say is that I feel it will benefit from cable ties to make it even sturdier - especially in the base section. I've used a stand and used plenty of 'support' grids underneath which have made it even stronger.

My guess is that it was more likely a fault in the design and builder than the cage itself. They're very easy to make sturdy and far better for your pigs than the shoebox sized commercial cages pet stores and breeders feel are so great for guinea pigs.

Unless you have C&C confused with something else?

When I try to reconstruct my cages, I have a heck of a time pulling them apart, so I can't imagine them being able to "fall apart." It might HAVE just been yours, if it wasn't secured with connectors and/or cable/zip ties.

I also use the cubes with connectors and zip ties as a bookshelf for my son... the sitter got locked in the room once and had used the bookshelf to climb out the window. It didn't fall apart with 150 lbs standing on one square, either. (Something good came from accidentally buying the wrong size from Target, I guess.) Point being, they're rather sturdy from my experiences.

I am guessing connectors were used. When I built one, regardless of how we put the connectors on the grids, they kept popping off. I don't know how other people use connectors, but zip ties/cable ties work pretty darn well.

I use connectors. You have to make sure they're really in there.

You have a really good point...Too bad my mom won't let me tape my floor But it took me a while to get my Mom convinced for a C&C cage and I still am. But so far, we've got it all dealed out.

Printing out some pages on C&C cages would help. Making a list of pros and cons of C&C cages is really good advice too. If your mom still isn't going for it, say you'll do stuff around the house(I'm doing that to earn my third piggy and my new laptop). Tell her that you just want your piggies to live a longer, happy life in a bigger cage then a pet store cage.

I squeeze the grids together near the connector with pliers and use a rubber mallet. I make sure they are REALLY on there. Plus, I use zip ties right under the connectors. I think using the connectors gives it a more uniform, cleaner look.

I used to use just connectors and it would fall apart. But then I got zip ties and it is very sturdy.

Really, this thread isn't about how bad c&c cages are because most likely, it was your fault silkiepoo. This thread shouldn't go off track because there's some really great advice from members in here that can be taken advantage of instead of people being distracted on your opinion because of the fault of your design.
