C&C Cages

So I'm planning on getting Moose a companion in the next month or two, and right now I'm getting ready to go buy the grids for my C&C cage. However after calling all around town I can't find a place that will sell Coroplast for less than 40 bucks. The closest place that sells it for a decent price is in Glendale, and I'm not too sure that I can take a gigantic piece of Coroplast onto the train with me. They sell 48"x98" sheets. Plus that's a really long train/bus ride (I can't drive.)

Are there any alternatives besides Linoleum and wood? I live in a small apartment so smells gather really easily. I just feel really bad having my girl in the pet store cage. It's so small. And I really want to do this in the next week or two.

Re: C&C Cages

This website sells it online and you can have it shipped to your house. Maybe that could be a resolution? It might be a little expensive though. But I think it will be easier than taking the long ride with a huge piece of plastic. Or maybe the place you get it can cut it into smaller pieces to make it easier to lug around.

Re: C&C Cages

I've been thinking about taking that route if I can find no other alternative. We've also looked into buying the kit, too. But the budget is getting a little tighter with my boyfriend having to take off work to attend a physical fitness and medical exam next week for the Border Patrol.

Don't get me wrong, I'll do it if it means my piggy will be happy. I'm just hoping to find a cheaper alternative first.

I totally understand. Money is difficult right now. I think my brother is taking that same test! =) Anyways, it might make you feel better if you are reminded that it's only a one time buy. Think of it that way, thats what I did. Also remember that you'll have healthier, happier guinea pigs. Healthier also means less expensive veterinary visits! (two of which I have had just this week)

Re: C&C Cages

I got extra pieces of coroplast from this ladies yard (I am laughing out loud). We were having elections here and I saw her pulling the old signs out her yard (7 signs to be exact) I asked her could I have them and she gave them to me. I'm not sure if this is an option for you but I got lucky and can now add some more space to my girls cage.

That's what I keep reminding myself. It'll be worth it in the end, and Moose will have a pal to popcorn with in a big cage. Money certainly is difficult, and I'm fortunate that we have a comfortable living and I get to be a stay at home mom (which both my 2 year old and piggy are grateful for.) for right now. It's just sometimes we try to find a more affordable way to do something.

I will definitely go with coroplast if there's no other alternative. I'll probably pay to have it shipped.

Thank you!

@newpiggie:
I'm sure if I look around, I'll find some. There's all kinds of drama going on over here still about prop 8, hr699 and ferret legalization.

Re: C&C Cages

If you use fleece, you can put plastic shower curtain on the floor, then top with towels and fleece. I see some people put the grids on top of all that. They don't have to worry about piggies getting access to the plastic, and it also helps keep the fleece down, makes it easier to vacuum poops.

If you haven't read about fleece, here are some helpful links.

Re: C&C Cages

Have you only tried sign shops or have you tried printing companies/shops too?

Thank you!!
With the surprise piggy we received today, we're going out in a few to go get cages and we were gonna cut down a plastic box to use until Wednesday, but I think we'll give the shower curtain and fleece a go! Thanks a ton!!

@Ly&Pigs;
I will try printing companies too.
Monday is going to be a busy day between vet and calling, but I'm a slave now. Hopefully something will come up, but as said before I'm going to give the shower curtain a go in the meantime.

@AllysGuineas:
I must admit I am a slave to the piggies now. The entire family is. Right now our lives are wrapped around Moose and our new little gal.

If you just got another piggy don't forget to quarantine! You don't want two sick piggies.

Re: C&C Cages

Sounds like you've just got babies? Then you'll need to baby-proof the cage. See how to baby-proof in the gallery. Sorry I can't post links, I'm typing on my phone.
