Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I have two guinea pigs, and they have a 2x6 cage. This sounds like a lot, but it's not, because I have to have it divided down the middle.(they will fight if together) So, both of my pigs have a 2x3 space, and one of them has a small ramp. In the summer, I want to do something to make it bigger, the only problem is that I can't make it any longer. If I did, it would block the doorway into the kitchen! And, I can't move it into any other room, unless I put it into my bedroom, which isn't the ideal place, because I wouldn't see them throughout the day. So I was wondering, is there any way to let them have more running space? Is building more levels on their cage a solution? Or is there anything else...? I could move their cage to the finished basement, but it's cold, and it has the same problem as putting them in the bedroom; I wouldn't see them. Any help or info is greatly appreciated! I have the same problem as you. My cage is a 2 x 5 and I can't make it longer or else I'll be trapped inside my room- so I built up. I have a "U" shaped upper level that is 1 x 5 and 2 x 1 on the sides, if that makes any sense. Two of my piggies don't even go downstairs, they stay upstairs because they have everything they need up there, I have been yet to see them go down the ramp haha. I think adding upwards is a good idea, every little piece of extra space counts for something : ) that's one more spot for popcorning! |

Thanks! I probably will build upwards once I buy more grids. Your upper level is "U" shaped? I might try that! The only problem is that the upper level can only be 2x3, because that is the size of the bottom level.... It is quite a dilemma! |

If they are together, they will fight. Trump is very aggressive and dominant, but he can live peacefully next to another piggy. |

2x3 is pretty good for one pig. Upper levels don't count towards floor space and the ramp will take away some running space unless you can make it an external ramp. BUT my pigs LOVE running up and down the ramp so I guess they don't mind the bottom of the ramp! Have a look at this: Side View of the New Cage - Guinea Pig Cage Photos you could do something like this? |

Well...My boyfriend cut some of the squares out of a grid using big scissors (which was suprisingly easy to do) so that I could have my ramp going up to the middle of my top floor so I would cut squares out of a grid on the side and then use either a piece of piping (from a DIY store) or some bent grids covered in carpet or coroplast with towel over it going outside the ramp and up to a similar hole on the external wall of the upper floor. Sounds complecated but is very easy once you have the bits. There is a picture of an external ramp on the photos but I can't find it. Also I would hold the ramp on by using cable ties! Hope this helps. |

External ramp from grids and coroplast - Guinea Pig Cage Photos Here is a link to an external ramp, but I think that if you can't make it longer, than the external ramp won't work because it will take more room... |
