Thinking of adopting, need to expand.

I search Craigslist everyday, and this morning I found these two girls in need of a home. I currently have two piggies in a 2x5 and they're very happy. They did not start out as a bonded pair, but after proper introductions when I adopted the second girl, Sugar, the two have become friends. I'm now wanting a third, or possibly two more. My heart melts when I see these precious animals not being treated right and in need of a permanent home. The two I linked above are in a pet store cage together and it just breaks my heart. The four month old I doubt is being given alfalfa, from what the description of supplies are. I live at home and have talked to my mom about it and she knows when I set my mind to something, I follow through. So really, because I pay for all expenses with my guinea pigs, she is okay with it. I showed her pictures and of course she thinks they're adorable. I do have the means to pay for vet expenses and all the daily costs. I have extra grids so I could expand, but I'm wondering if making my cage a 2x6 is big enough for four. I know that it says thats the reccommended size but of course bigger is better. I can't expand width wise really, except for maybe adding an L shape at one end. Any ideas for a cage if I do get the two girls?

I am also going to be at the Wee Companions adoption fair this saturday looking at the piggies there for adoption.

I realize it'd be double the cost to have four. If I found a solo piggy at the adoption this Saturday, how much more is it really for three?

Re: Thinking of adopting, need to expand.

The 4 months old doesn't NEED to be given alfalfa IF she is given the proper diet of high calcium veggies.

I think that if you meet with them and if you really like them and have the means to care for them there is no reason for you to not get them. Keep in mind though, that after quarantine and introductions, they may not get along with your original pigs. You need to make sure that you have the room to keep them in a separate cage.

Re: Thinking of adopting, need to expand.

That's true, but being in a pet store cage like that I doubt they're getting all the veggies they need.

Exactly what I was thinking, and I know I could do stacked cages in case they don't get along. Thanks for your input.
