Careless Worried...Ebay Purchase

I purchase a C&C type cage off of ebay. I'm slightly worried that I may have got the wrong thing. The description said the coroplast side walls were 6"inch in the front and 10"high on the sides and back. Some of the cubes squares look like they might be too big if I cut down the back and side coroplast and that is the reason they made it bigger. Then I read something on another website ( I don't remember where) that the guinea pig needs to see out on all of the sides. Well there is no way that Sparkles (we haven't brought her home yet) would be able to see out except for the front of the cage. Help! Am I worrying for nothing or do I have a legit concern? The dimensions of the cage are 28" W by 42" L by 14H.

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

I don't think it's anything to worry about. I puposely made 2 of the sides of my coroplast 10 inches high as those sides are against walls anyway and there's nothing to see. It also stops my lively boys hoofing out bedding from the litter tray to where I can't vacuum easily. If you do decide you want the walls shorter you can trim the coroplast yourself quite easily with a box cutter.

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

I'm probably worrying about nothing. I just didn't want the little pig to get hurt or something when I bring her home. Thanks,

Is Sparkles a young pig? If so you'll want the sides higher for a little while anyway. Then you can trim them down

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

Actually I purchased some cages from ebay with the same coroplast sides and sure enough the cubes sides for the higher part of the coroplast were the larger squares. I'm working on something to fix that problem. -_- Luckily I purchased the cages way before I had plans on getting the guinea pigs... preparing for when I graduate college.

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

DId you purchase the cage from Sue, or someone else? I'm pretty sure Sue doesn't use the unsafe larger-hole grids. But I know some of the other sellers out there use the larger hole grids, and make the coroplast higher to compensate.

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

I could go back and check but I know it wasn't sue. I'm still debating on what to do because I ordered two cages and both were made that way. I guess the higher coroplast makes it safe but we'll see. edit: "we'll see" was meant to refer to if I will keep it that way or not before I get the guinea pigs. Not that I'm waiting for them to get hurt.

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

I have 10" sides all the way around my cage and my pigs could care less.

Re: Worried...Ebay Purchase

I'm sure having one wall at 6 inches and the rest at 10 inches won't bother the guinea pigs much but would it be appropriate to leave the larger square grids there, it covers most of the grid up so I guess it wouldn't be too dangerous but I haven't decided. if all else fails I can use the few extra grids I have to over lap with zip ties to make the walls safer.
