Wood frame?

If one was going to attempt to frame a C&C cage with wood, what sort of wood would be recommended?

Re: Wood frame?

By a frame do you mean that the cavies would be running on it and have access to it?

It would need to be treated. I don't know much about it but I don't really suggest it.

Check out the photo galleries and go to the cages that seem to fit your description.I think that there's a wood section...and an alternative section.

Re: Wood frame?

No, it would be a frame for support around the outside of the cage, like what is pictured in the gallery. I didn't see any indication of what type of wood was used, hence, my question

Thanks!

Re: Wood frame?

Here is mine I got the wood from Lowes just plain ole 1 x 3 for uprights and 1 x 2's for the resr of it. Put cross pieces to help hold the grids on bottom then zip tied them all together. Here is the link to my pictures and if you go to the Photo Galleries above and click on either closed cage or closed multi level you will find more pictures of other peoples cages. Here is the link to mine the boys new cage - Guinea Pig Cage Photos

Re: Wood frame?

That's awesome, thank you! So the type of wood used doesn't matter?

Re: Wood frame?

as long as it isn't where they can pee on it it shouldn't I just got what they had on hand just look for some good with no bowing or alot of knots. With the grids on the inside they don't usually chew on the wood and with the coroplast on the bottom it doesn't get wet so don't have to worry about mildew. I made mine one grid and then cut a grid in half and used it for the upper part so it is taller and I can get my upper body inside easier to clean. They like it and I like it.

Re: Wood frame?

We used spruce for our pen. The entire thing is made of it and the bottom is lined with plastic. Works well for us!

Re: Wood frame?

Just makes sure it isn't pressure treated wood. It's the wood that has a greenish tinge to it. It doesnt let to wood rot but isnt good if heaven forbid it was ever ingested (you never know).

Re: Wood frame?

What I was wondering is if you could build a bottom wood frame, put Coroplast ontop of the wood then fleece ontop of the Coroplast and Wood?

Re: Wood frame?

Sure don't know why not the pee isn't going to get on the wood so you won't have mold or fungus. It would be like putting it on your table same thing as long as you use the coroplast your good to go.
