Height of sides on a second level?

How high do the sides need to be on a second level? I can't make the outside walls out of cubes unfortunately as I don't have enough of them.

The inside walls just to stop them falling in are going to be made out of cubes cut in half I think, if that would be enough?

Re: Height of sides on a second level?

I would feel uncomfortable with anything less then the height of the cubes for both inner or out walls. My pigs climb and jump a lot and I'm sure they would get themselves into trouble if it was less... Saying that I have only 1/3 of the height on the ramp and they haven't done anything stupid yet but maybe because they concentrate on getting down the ramp ok. I just feel on the second level they would be nosing too much about and I would be afraid they would try to climb over the sides if they were lower.

Ok....will aim at making the same height of the cubes...or get some more cubes...but they are expensive.

Re: Height of sides on a second level?

I think they are more expensive in the UK than in the US. I was lucky that the shop got my last order wrong and sent me only half what they should have. When I explained that the order was wrong they sent me a new correct batch without asking for the first one back

Shop around for the best deal. Might be cheaper to order online than in shops. And the piggies' safety is worth the wait.

Yeh, I will deifnitly shop around, but will build it mostly from hardboard for the moment, it gives them somewhere to really hide from my daughter as much as anything else.

I have found even if there are two pigloos in there exactly the same they want the one that the other is in!

Re: Height of sides on a second level?

My pigs can clear half a cube easily, but they are smart enough to know that if they go over the ledge, there is nothing there to catch them. And my railing is inside the cage, so if the do jump, they still can't get out of the cage.

Re: Height of sides on a second level?

You can do half grids for the inside area on an upper deck/loft. I used to do it all the time.
