Question Static?

Hello!

I'm having issues with tons of static in their cage, which seems to have come about from the coroplast. I live in AZ where it's really dry, so that's probably the most contributing factor, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem, and what they might have done about it? The static causes my poor pigs' hair to stand up like crazy, and their shed hair clings to EVERYTHING, especially the coroplast.

Any tricks for getting rid of static? I've tried humidifiers but they don't really work, as it's just really too dry and I don't have the money to buy a gigantic humidifier

Re: Static?

What kind of bedding are you using? I don't seem to have that problem, and I use static-laden fleece. I shake it out a bunch before I fold it, though, and that seems to help THAT part.

When I first made the cages, the sheets of coroplast I had gave me lots of static, which made for a fun time shocking the husband. But, I washed down the coroplast with water and vinegar and never really had much of a problem since then.

Re: Static?

They're just on regular aspen. And ironically enough tonight I did a thorough scrubbing with some vinegar so we'll see if that helps too.

Thank you!

Re: Static?

My guys are all shortish haired, too, so I might not notice as much. They are loving the fall temperatures lately, though. We've been leaving the window open and it gets nice and cool, and they get to sniff the fresh air. It does feel really dry this year compared to the last few. I think I need about a gallon of lotion.

I'm making myself a note to pay more attention during next cage cleaning to see if I notice anything about the static!!

Re: Static?

Cleaning with the vinegar seems to have helped - I don't notice the static in their cage nearly as much! Thanks!

And yes - the weather has been (had been? last couple days have been so warm!) nice lately. I know they love the fresh air (their cage is in front of an arcadia door I open a couple inches to let fresh air in at night). They love it.
